Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2008

I am not sure Dom is my jam. The overt amount of fruit and yeasty bread is a little too intense for me. — 19 days ago

Millésime de Collection Special Club Chardonnay Champagne 2008

#AgedWineTuesday

This is a delicious Champagne from the great 2008 vintage.

Light yellow in color with a golden hue.

Medium plus in body with small bubbles and medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with a nice mouthfeel. Elegant and complex.

Showing bruised apples, yeast, citrus, brioche, spices, minerals, sea salt, light river rocks, earth and white pepper.

Long finish with limes and almonds.

This 15 year old Champagne is rich and very enjoyable by itself or with food.

Nicely balanced and concentrated, with nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Thank you Scott for sharing this with me.

I paired it with light appetizers.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$100.

As can be seen, got the last dregs. Way more herbal than the Gonon, but still a youngster at 16. — 5 months ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Syrah 2008

Excellent 08. Chave and Allemand really nailed the difficult vintage in Northern Rhône, and 2008 Hermitage is showing beautifully tonight, fresh, elegant and detailed with aromas of juicy red berry fruit, bacon, roasted herbs and smoky minerals. While not an exceptionally deep and concentrated rendition in 2008, it’s really a considerable success, and it’s fully open, giving and ready to drink. — 7 months ago

Cantina Bartolo Mascarello

Barolo Nebbiolo 2008

Quite light ruby garnet , wide garnet rim . Quite open and powerful on the nose with sweet cherry , rose , mint , porcini , earl grey tea , dried herbs and liquorice . On the palate lovely herbal tinged red cherry and raspberry , mineral and saline also , those porcini and earl grey notes coming through also . Fresh acidity and ripe but pretty grippy tannins , good length and balance . Overall there is a sense of elegance and freshness with the sweet fruit balanced with fresh acidity. This is showing well though quite young with pretty noticeable tannins that need some air and food to ameliorate. Probably even better in 5 years or so and will last a further 10-15 years — a year ago
