Quite shy at this stage, the single-vineyard 2019 Calvarino from Soave’s iconic producer Pieropan takes quite some coaxing from the glass, even having been decanted. It has reticent but enticing aromas of lemon juice, honey, some nuttiness and even a hint of star anise, while the palate is much more forthcoming. Lemons first, fresh, ripe and delicious; then, it caresses into peaches and melons, with tangy acidity but a very supple texture. The finish is quite long, and saline. Really a very pretty wine that I think will ultimately benefit from some mid-term ageing. — 9 months ago

Wauw. Wat een feestje. Precies zoals beschreven. In de neus o.a. citrus, perzik, sinaasappelschil en jasmijn. In de mond citroengras, verveine en voor mij ook gember. Zuivere wijn, prachtig in balans. Je kan hier aan blijven ruiken en proeven. Bonus: biologisch dynamisch gemaakt (niet gecertificeerd als zodanig) — 6 months ago
Classy. Smooth, a bit about it. Let's get more. Enjoyed for J's birthday. — 4 years ago
Not as good as Pieropan, but still a very bright and lovely garganega from one of the region's oldest producers. — 9 years ago
Along w/ Pra & Pieropan - the royalty of Soave. Ca’Rugate also make fantastic reds. Their wines always technically correct and strike the proper balance of extraction & finesse. This was no different: floral and citrus, vein of minerality, suave acidic backbone, delicious finish. — 5 years ago
