The nose was a bit oxydized at first and I was afraid the wine was lost but it took off after a while. The nose is very strong on honey, apricot and brioche. The palate was very acid driven with a nice fatty, thick touch on the side and a real grip on the rear before and everlasting finish with honey. The wine screams botrytis but with a more agressive, more intense and maybe a tad less noble form than its sauternes and likes counterparts. I like its wild style. — 2 days ago

I adore this wine and I think it’s next to cotat/vatan some of the most original and distinctive SB out there. It will also age like Cotat and Vatan. Deep nose. Lemon and mineral. Wonderful purity. Nose has very dark chocolate, roasted coffee bean, blackberry-blueberry mash, rose petals, slight mint, crushed black cherry and wet slate.
Palate has warmed plum, chocolate cake, vanilla tobacco, light cedar and light oak. Surprisingly the tannins are quite mellow, easily approachable in a very, very youthful state.
A very heavy bottle, you could easily knock someone into tomorrow with a well timed swing.
We paired with delightfully thick bone-in ribeye's on the grill, actually a great pair with a nice sear/char from a wicked hot grill (+600°F). Delicious, local grass fed cattle.
Suckling, 99 points...Really? No one should be this drinking this before 2025, at least. I guess I have at least a baseline on what he thinks is the greatest Purple Angel to date. I agree, it is very good, but needs a lot of time, we have several, older vintages in the cellar just waiting for the right time.
I will certainly need to brush my teeth at least 2x after enjoying this wine. I'll have a 24hr check-in tomorrow, we're not finishing this on day one.

The 07 Estate Cuvée is a blend of; 49% Syrah, 37% Cabernet and 14% Petit Verdot.
The nose reveals, bright, ripe, ruby fruits of; mulberries, boysenberries, olallieberries, black plum, plum, blackberries and black cherries. Some black pepper, melted dark chocolate, mocha powder, vanilla, dark, rich soil, limestone minerals, dry sage, bay leaf, understated dark spice, dry crushed rocks, burnt ambers, incense, underbrush, soft leather & woody notes with loads of fresh, fragrant violets and lavender.
The body is; full, ruby, lush and voluptuous. The tannins are powdery dry with some meaty, stickiness. The structure and tension are still quite big. The length and balance are in the first phase of their good groove. It has another 6-8 years of very good drinking going forward. Dark currants-cassis, bright, ripe, ruby, jammy fruits of; mulberries, boysenberries, olallieberries, black plum, plum, blackberries, creamy black raspberries and black cherries. Warm blueberry pie, more black pepper on the palate then the nose, melted dark chocolate, mocha powder, vanilla, some clove, cinnamon stick, black licorice, sweet tarriness, dark, rich soil, moist clay, limestone minerals, dry sage, bay leaf, dark spice with some uplifting palate heat, dry crushed rocks, burnt ambers, incense, savory meats, underbrush, suede style leather, cedar with loads of fresh, fragrant violets and lavender. The acidity is round and beautiful. The long, rich, ruby, well balanced, voluptuous, nicely polished finish is delicious and persists on and on.
This is a wine where Southern Rhône meets Bordeaux.

Cheval des Andes tasting with their technical manager who is also an assistant winemaker. Tasted ‘05, ‘07, ‘14 and ‘15. Very cool story behind this winery (and its affiliation with Chateau Cheval Blanc).
Even though it was the youngest vintage of the evening, the bones are here for this to be a long lived and beautiful wine. Described by them as a “classic vintage”, it also represents a style shift where they will focus only on blending Malbec and Cabernet (percentage will change each year), as opposed to being more Bordeaux in style with merlot and petit Verdot like previous vintages. Very clean. Super aromatic with ripe and sweet red and black fruit. No traces of licorice or squeezed fruit that Malbec can show. Very faint dark cocoa, cedar and herbal notes toward the back.
