Certainly heavy with oak and spice. Certainly smooth and easy. β 8 years ago

It's Blanton's, proofed up to 103. Being a single barrel, Blanton's is consistently good but not consistently great. This bottle is well above average. It smells and tastes like something from the Van Winkle bourbon lineup. Dark cherry, apricot, leather, cigar box. Much more pleasing than last years bottle. I thought the Gold used to be in a skinnier 700ml bottle, but this is 750ml. Maybe I'm losing it π€

Iβve never had a swing of opinion larger that this. I originally rated this 6.2 and panned it (below). I just stuck this in the back of my bar and forgot about it for months. When I rediscovered it, it (or maybe I) was totally different. Complex, luscious with a long finish and amazing flavors or spice, vanilla, oak, brown sugar and rosemary. Itβs a miracle!!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: This just sucks, I guess? Multiple tries over a week and all I get is charcoal and copper. Like, if you took a bottle of Jack Daniels, put 50 pennies in it and left it in a closet for 6 monthsβ¦you would have this whiskey. Bizarre and terrible. β 4 years ago

Medium Dark amber unctiousness. So pleasant; apricot with peach weight decadence meets drizzled caramel and baked apple that brings pine forest fire sharply, hot and precise, before grilled yellow peppers and lava salt unfold to daffodil delicate and ethereal. Nose of golden tears. You drink in acanthus long before your sip; gum Arabic, hot orange honey and graphite. Mocha tobacco, bourbon barrel aged grappa, smoke of charred pit pig fat, roasted Tabasco pepper, and cinnamon oil and green olive grapple over cracked black pepper, anise seed, lavender oil, oregano oil and charred orange peel. Disturbs the mind in its swing from darkness to light, from life to death and finally rebirth. Volcanic and chaotic, but ripe for life and ultimately reverberating in possibility. #nikka #nikkawhisky #nikkapuremalt #taketsuruwhisky #thenikkawhiskydistillingco #whisky #japan #japanesewhisky #nippon #nipponwhisky #masetakataketsuru #yoichi #miyagikyo #whiskey β 6 years ago
Not a Bourbon guy, but this was ridiculously good. Single barrel Blanton's. They don't cut this before bottling, so you end up with a 128 proof smack to the face that carries cinnamon, burnt caramel, and cream. It's almost viscous, coating your mouth. Don't plan on drinking anything after this... your palate will be blown! β 10 years ago
