Really lovely. Full of zest and life. Held a beautiful profile in the palate for absolutely ages (even when we had finished dinner and the bottle and while watching Collingwood. And if there's anything to put a bad taste in your mouth it would be Collingwood Football Club).
I still believe, for my palate, that Watervale/Springvale Grosset Rieslings drink better young, while the Polish Hills are better with age. — 3 years ago
Super solid. Would have guessed Watervale blind. Fresh lime acidity, a whiff of petrol fumes and honeysuckle — 7 years ago
Actually not at the level of refinement I expected. Blind it had more of a ripe McLaren Vale character than Clare.
Full body but lacks complexity. — 10 years ago
A slightly unusual Riesling, more on the sweeter side than I’m used to, with distinct but delicate stone fruit flavours prominent on the front palate. The more typical Riesling citrus buzz is still evident, but only has a supporting role on the back of the palate, along with a fine quartz like minerality. Also missing is the usual Riesling acidity. The wine much softer than typical, but far from flabby, the balance exquisite. Bloody delicious actually. An unexpected gem. — 10 years ago
Noticeably different to the watervale, this screams ripe limes, along with florals, talc and sense of minerality. Delivers with line and length as per usual, quality. — 10 years ago
At the time, 2015 was considered the vintage of the decade in the Clare Valley, delivering favourable conditions for all varieties. This wine feels buoyant, still showing a spring in its step, loaded with positive energy. — 2 years ago
Wonderful with Thanksgiving dinner! Thanks to the winemaker Alex Mackenzie for going through the trouble of shipping it to me through US customs. — 8 years ago
Signs of premature ageing but really good. Enjoyed over two days. — 10 years ago
Gewurztraminer is a varietal that does particularly well in New Zealand in my tasting experience. Gorgeous nose of lychees with floral spicy notes. Voluptuous on the front and middle palates but finishes dry. The perfect wine with Asian food. In a word - delicious. Another brilliant Gewürztraminer is made at Gisborne in the North Island by Vinoptima whose goal it is to produce the worlds best Gewürztraminer to challenge the Grand Crus of Alsace. — 11 years ago
Star bright yellow gold. Inviting nose of green apple and citrus rind. Medium palate echoes the nose bolstered by firm acidity and adding layers of dried fruit, cement, and white pepper. Remarkably long finish continues the palate. Wonderful example of the citrusy Aussie style of Riesling. Excellent with any "white wine" fare, but pork or seafood dishes are particularly good. Drink now through 2036. — 3 years ago
Outstanding expression of Riesling, plenty of limes and floral notes, rich palate but still tight, long finish. — 6 years ago
Only word of caution would be in regard to abv, huge! — 10 years ago
Notes of candied orange zest and lemon sorbet as it warms up. Great line and length. Would love to revisit laid down a cutla — 10 years ago
Lime, lemon.. Good balance of fruit and acidity. Go Clare. — 11 years ago
Bob McDonald

Aromatics of lime juice and talc/musk. A classic Watervale Riesling from the Clare Valley. On the palate those same limey flavours with a textural waxiness. Made by John Vickery who is regarded as the master of Australian Riesling. See my previous notes about John here on Delectable and his work with Leo Buring back in the 1970’s. Crazy good value - I paid $18 back in 2019. — 14 days ago
