Although the Rheingau dominates in Riesling, the region’s Pinot Noirs are also noteworthy. From one of the oldest wine makers there, this Spätburgunder is light, balanced acidity, and beautiful layers of fruit. — 4 years ago
Here’s a biodynamically-produced Syrah blend from Minervois La Livinière AOC, a subregion within Minervois, which is located on the slopes of the Massif Central (highlands) in the Languedoc region of France (Southern). 🇫🇷 It has 95% Syrah and 5% Grenache. 🍇
This wine comes from grapes grown on the terraced vineyards of Les Planels, where grapes have been grown for 35 years.
👁 The color is beautifully deep and rich purple. I see noteworthy staining and tearing on the glass.
👃 The nose is youthful with an immediate bouquet of ripe and jammy black fruit such as black plum, black cherry, cassis, and blackberry preserves. There are also dried herb notes, such as lavender, sage, thyme, also black peppercorn, anise, pencil lead, cedar, cinnamon, clove, earth, and cured meat.
This wine was fermented in an open concrete vat and aged for 12 months in French Oak barrels, 1/3 of which were new oak, lending some of the baking-spice notes to the nose. 🪵
👄 On the palate this wine is dry. It has medium acidity, a full body, high alcohol, grippy tannins, flavors largely consistent with the nose, but less juicy and more earthy on the palate, and a lingering finish.
This wine is juicy and bold and has potential for further aging. 👌👌👌
We’re pairing it tonight with leftovers from last night’s bbq 🍖 🥩 and it is a lovely pairing!
Château Maris, Les Planels, Cru La Livinières. Syrah and Grenache. Vintage 2017. ABV 14.5%. — 5 years ago

Saturated ruby. Expansive, smoke-tinged aromas of ripe red and blue fruit liqueur, candied flowers, sandalwood, coconut and pipe tobacco show superb definition and spicy lift. Stains the palate with alluringly sweet cherry-cola, blackcurrant jam, mocha, vanilla and fruitcake flavors that show noteworthy depth as well as energy. A minerally nuance appears with air and drives an extremely long, gently tannic finish that echoes the cherry and floral notes. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2021)

What a surprise..!
This is a very noteworthy wine in this vintage.
Dark colour - black core. Upon opening it shows wonderful notes of grilled meat, roasted capsicum and herbs, coffee, chocolate, incense and blackberries. Tannines are wonderfully integrated and there is a lovely savory quality on the palate. Only slightly rustic, this CF-heavy (!) Saint Emilion is drinking beautifully now.
René Gabriel was right. It’s quite remarkable.
4 hrs after opening, warming up a little bit, it even improves...! — 5 years ago
100% Sangiovese. Soft and velvety but oh so expressive! Aromas and flavors of red and black fruits. Complex accents of forest floor, tobacco, dried herbs, black licorice and coffee. The fruit is bold, but it keeps the noteworthy tannins and alcohol in lovely balance. Oaky on the finish but not overpowering. Beautiful wine. Thank You so much, Kase. — 4 years ago
This vintage is noteworthy. At Vine Cliff the grapes are meticulously hand-sorted, ensuring that only perfect berries make it into the tank for fermentation. The result is a 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with deep concentration, pure focused fruit and an incredibly long finish with plush, fine-grained tannins. — 5 years ago
Beautiful ruby colour. Light body. Noteworthy: raspberry. Would be more appropriate on a hot sunny day. — 5 years ago
