Tamaral

Finca La Mira Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 2017

Deep Ruby color with aromas of black fruits, floral and sweet earthy notes. On the palate flavors of plum and blackberry with notes of leather and earthy spice. Firm tannins, medium finish ending with fruit, oak and earthy character. — 7 months ago

Bodegas Sierra Salinas

Mira Salinas Alicante Monastrell 2017

This take stage really nicely. It keeps opening and growing more complex but always subtle. Great wine to drink with food. — 3 years ago

Bricco Mira Langa Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo 1989

JKT
9.2

Mary BD 11/19/21 with suckling pig. Opened at the end. Terrific Barolo with all the classic varietal profile. Pleasure to drink though didn’t quite match the Brunello in pairing the pig. Last one and winery defunct. — 3 years ago

Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

2017 vintage. Medium-heavy body alongside dark color and a dense nose. Enough fruit to please but not enough to overwhelm the balance. A very pleasant exeunt comprised of cassis, plum and milk chocolate. Nice for the price and drinking well now. 3.29.23. — 2 years ago

Bodegas Hidalgo

Wellington 20 Years VOS Palo Cortado Sanlúcar de Barrameda Palomino Fino

Da bomb, for sherry lovers: Palo Cortado versión. A shape shifter on the palate & ringing on the higher registers, this Hidalgo checks all the boxes for me, which includes a lightness & freshness heaven made for most food. Burnt pine cone & toffee bits, a subtle mushroom thing (oyster?), & a rather trim beef bouillon broth lurking on the back end. That may all be bs but it’s a wine that inspires….. — 3 years ago

Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

One of my new favorite Napa Chardonnays, maintains an old world profile with struck flint and reductive characters while maintaining excellent acid. — 3 years ago

Valdespino

Solera 1842 Medium Sweet Very Old Oloroso Blend VOS Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palomino Fino

I have usually had the good fortune to drink one bottle annually in recent memory. Such a light, fresh palate, which I find typical of Valdespino. Can go with food or without. Medium bodied, if caramel was de sweetened & injected with some mushrooms, kinda on the right flavor path. It’s freshness is its strength — 4 years ago
