La Mariole Vieilles Vignes Red Blend 2019

So, a French Languedoc old vine Carignan from 100+-year-old vines (12.5% ABV) in Corbieres, shows classic southern French garrigue, sage and rosemary I smell, complex yet much lighter on the palate, these old vine Carignan tonight are both quite fine, though I will say that if you tried these blind side-by-side, it wouldn’t be difficult to identify the Old World vs. New World versions. — 7 months ago

@Dave, it was, I marginally preferred the Liocco tonight, my wife the La Mariole. Interesting to me was that the CA wine was totally clean, zero sediment, while the French wine had a fair crust on the side of the bottle. Both were quite enjoyable, and if my way better half was doing the ratings, the French wine (Vin de Table, BTW, not Corbieres) would have been 3 points better than the Lioco!

A wonderful Mount Veeder Cab that has aged elegantly.

The nose shows blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum laced with savory notes of cedar, tobacco and dried herbs. The palate is concentrated yet vibrant with silky tannins has firm grip, finishing long with hints of cocoa and espresso.

Restrained power and finesse, Yannick brought both Veeder’s rugged characters and French precision. Last bottle.

Clos Rousseau Santenay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2023

Elegant and balanced beautifully, but way too young. Enjoyed this at St. Elmo Steakhouse in Indy. Beautiful just-ripe cherry fruit, a floral note, stony minerality. Very nice acids. Tannins very soft. This started to open up nicely by the end of the dinner. — a month ago

@Dave St Elmo’s is famous for their shrimp cocktail and super hot cocktail sauce. Not sure about anything else.

Dave

Ah! I looked at their website, and you are right about the shrimp cocktail! They do sell their own proprietary cherry vanilla bourbon, which is what I know them for 😂 @Brian Hearty

Lavaux St. Jacques Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2012

Medium ruby , garnet rim. Quite open and fruit driven nose , cherry , strawberry , earthy porcini. On the palate this is still quite fruit driven red cherry , raspberry , velvety mouthfeel and rounded tannin , fresh acidity, good length. Quite intense with quite primary , fruit forward , cherry , raspberry . Well balanced and fresh . Though really enjoyable will probably improve over the next 5-8 years .
