On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor David Newman is leading a live-to-picture performance of Leonard Bernstein’s score for “West Side Story”, originally directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins, and with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
For live-to-picture productions, the orchestra performs the entire movie score in real time as the film unspools. (Vocals, dialogue and effects are isolated from the original music track.) The BSO installed very fancy and large LED screens on the perimeter of the Shed facing the Lawn, amazing!
Very nice light Salmon color. Nice fruit, 50% Cinsault & 50% Grenache. Very tasty, much better than their still rosé. — 6 years ago
Sweet but not too sweet. A little Sirup taste to it but fades quickly. Not bitter on the finish. For $6 headed back to buy whatever else they have. — 6 years ago
Really sweet. Low alcohol content. Good with spicy foods. — 7 years ago
A pale light yellow in the glass. Delicate small bubbles and nice creaminess. The nose is incredibly fresh with a touch of menthol complemented by pineapple. Nuttiness and baked bread along with pears. Tasted in the Grassl 1855 which showed more autolytic aromas after given time and air.
Another stellar champagne from the 2008 vintage. Blanc de blancs from Montgenost disgorged in 2019. Lowish dosage of 5 g/l but it doesn’t bring searing acidity, instead it delivers intensity, purity, and drama.
Pleasing and pleasant, there’s quite a bit to like here. The palate is focused and harmonious with complexity. Lively and intense on the tongue with plenty of citrus that recedes only for brioche bread to take the lead. Minerality on the long finish. Revisit this a few more years down the road and you’ll be happy. — 3 years ago
Founded by brothers Thomas and Leonard Pennachetti, Cave Spring has become a benchmark estate for several of Niagara's core varieties. My favorites, however, are their Riesling. Their CSV, coming from the oldest blocks of Cave Spring's estate property on the Beamsville Bench, represents the pinnacle of their dry Rieslings. Intensely concentrated, with a pillar of acidity and gripping stony flavors, the wine finds a taut balance between its nervy salinity and pure apple and pear skin flavors. — 6 years ago
Awesome sweet red. Just a bit of sweetness to it with a smooth finish — 7 years ago
Smell : A bit volatile, strong green apple notes.
Taste : Flowery characteristics, green apple notes, and slightly buttery when swirleded in mouth.
Body: Medium bodied. Sweet.
Finish : Long finish with strong green apple notes
Summary: Crisp and sweet wine. Best enjoyed as an aperitif. — 6 years ago

Sparkling strawberry juice! So fun, love this wine. Please see my prior notes. — 6 years ago
2009 Domaine Du Bel Air Bourgueil “Clos Nouveau” and The Versatones on a humid Wednesday night. An overlooked 1950’s R&B/Doo-Wop Band which grew from the legendary Leonard Du Paur Infantry Chorus. If you are reading this and enjoy late 50’s/early 60’s Soul, seek it out. The wine is more concentrated than one might expect from the appellation, but is a ripe smoky cherry glass of delicious. Great things made better together! — 7 years ago
