Kevin's

Kobalt

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Second vintage from Kevin Carriker (I think Mark Herold was still involved at this time). Absolutely terrific. It's clear that Kevin's wines need a lot of time in bottle. Had this one several years ago and there is NO comparison. Surprised how much primary fruit one still gets on the nose, but the palate is classic, moderately aged CA cab. Beautifully sweet, integrated tannins. Great balance, with a silky finish. Unfortunately this is our last bottle, but it probably has a few more years left (but don't wait: it's drinking perfectly now!). — 7 years ago

Fattoria dei Barbi (Colombini)

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

The 2010 vintage is absolutely a treat. My first 10 out of 10. Not one of Kevin's picks but I bet it will be soon. — 7 years ago

Napa Valley Petite Sirah 2013

One of Kevin's picks so this came with high expectations and oh boy did it deliver. Fruity to start with an earthy finish. Looks very dark in the glass. Overall a great wine #kevinspick — 7 years ago

Cape Winemakers Guild

Waterford Estate ‘1988 Kept Aside’ Chardonnay 2017

Greg Ballington
9.1

@Delectable Wine this is the 2017 Waterford Estate Cape Winemakers Guild ‘1988 Kept Aside’ Chardonnay.

Our first time every at the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction and we will make sure to come back! (Tasting was on 9/28/18).

Eighth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and sixth still white wine. This is made up of 100% Chardonnay by Kevin Arnold from Stellenbosch. Aged for a total of eleven months on the lees with no malolactic fermentation. Only 50 cases produced with 36 being auctioned in 2018. Sadly this was Kevin's last year as a member of the Guild as he has decided to retire.

Light greenish yellow in appearance, seeming insanely young. Creamy nose with some light butter, green tree fruits, and some citrus zest. Medium acidity (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Rich and creamy mouthfeel with some light butterscotch, overripe green apples, peaches and minerality on the back end. Medium plus finish. Drink till 2024.

$$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction. Average bid at auction was R3,422.00 ($40.30 a bottle) a case. Highest bid was R4,200.00 ($49.46 a bottle) and lowest bid was R3,000.00 ($35.33 a bottle).

Salinia Wine Company

Russian River Valley Chardonnay

Salinia Wellspring Chardonnay, multi-vintage, Solera aging. Really enjoy the slightly oxidative style of Kevin's Chards, so was really looking forward to this. So much so that I Pobega'd the first one within two hours of delivery. Decent on pop and pour, this got better with air and really starred on night two. Exotic mix of citrus and saline, mineral and acidity. Great texture. Not for everyone as the other Delectable notes reflect, but I thought this was extremely interesting and fun to drink. — 7 years ago
