Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

Romanée-St. Vivant Pinot Noir 2012

Archiving my tasting notes and realised I had forgotten to add this. My second encounter with any DRC was just a swig of a two day-opened 12' RSV. My notes are far from detailed - immense and firm. Oak and stems very present, but seamless. Floral, red fruited, huge Vosne spice, and plenty mineral. Clearly high level with plenty of stuffing. Power without weight.

NB: Pic taken from SC's IG.

Kuheiji

Camargue cepage Manobi Sake 2017

French Manobi rice, grown in Carmague, brewed in Japan - part of the Kuheiji's projects in France (the other being a winery in Morey-Saint-Denis). Weighty, but mind-blowingly elegant. Floral, herbaceous, with an exotic fruit profile, and a mineral finish. So good, impossible not to empty.

NB: Taking this notes straight from my IG. After the Aramasa Cosmos, I would have never thought I'd drink another saké that could trump it within the span of a week. To be frank, I've got mixed feelings about Kuheiji - sometimes their saké's are too rich for me, but at times they are truly out of this world, like the one right here. Ranks among the best saké's I've tasted. Thanks to JS for bringing this rare bird back from Japan.

Hugel et Fils

Estate Alsace Gewürztraminer 2014

Color : White
Wine estate : Famille Hugel
Designation : Alsace
Name : Gewürztraminer Estate
Country : France
Vivino : 4.5/5
Note : The Hugel family introduces us to its "Estate" wine meaning a harvest of their grapes and worked in tradition to create a wine of great quality. A golden color and a pleasant fruity nose. On the palate, a roundness and an explosion of knowledge typical of Alsace. You feel the body and the presence of the terroir. A beautiful length and a long finish focused on caramel, oil and citrus fruits.

You gotta keep the app live if I get a notification and have to flip to another app. It’s a huge flaw right now. This flaw evaporates many notes. If I get a notification while I am writing a delectable TN and flip to Twitter or IG then flip back to Delectable (this is on iPhone) the TN disappears and the app reboots. It’s something that needs to be taken care of. Like my twitter, IG screens stay in same position and all work is there. If i am posting and get a notification then I flip somewhere and go back, nothing changed and my work is saved on twitter and IG and other apps. That’s the note as my note for this wine got evaporated because of this flaw. Wine is bonkers. — a year ago

Domaine Chapel

Beaujolais-Villages Gamay 2017

I've been dying to try this domaine after all the positive chatter on IG, and I'm happy to report that it lived up to it. At the recommendation of AC at Blackhearts and Sparrows, I opted for their 17' village instead of their cru cuvees. Apparently, the latter are rather jammy this vintage 🤮 Don't you just love it when your favourite wine shop knows your taste well.

This Beaujolais-Villages was bright and complex. Red-fruited, spicy, black tea elements, with a granitic minerality, and fine acidity. There's some serious structure here, but it's so easy to drink.

NB: Domaine Chapel's Beaujolais-Villages is made from vines in Lantignié, next to Régnié and high up in the hills. The village is considered by many to be equal to or even better than some of the crus in the region (apparently, a prime candidate for the next cru Beaujolais). Good to learn!

I enjoyed the 17 Julienas Cotes de Bessay. Not too ripe, decent grip on the finish. Fun stuff!
