Antle Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014
Fun tasting at Weygandt Wines with John Lockwood. The third of four wines being poured and first red.
Medium garnet red with a ruby core. A bit singular to start with a medium intensity floral attack. After a few minutes in the class, red berries carried throughout and the floral notes morphed into a spiced finish or white pepper. Medium tannins (5/10) and medium acidity (6/10) on the palate. Light body and fresh. Lots of red berries on the palate; strawberries, raspberries and a touch of rhubarb. Stoney notes and acidity carry from the mid palate through the long and lingering finish. Drink till 2024.
This wine is made up of 100% Pinot Noir. 50% whole cluster and aged in neutral hogshead barrels (350L) for 12 months. — 9 years ago

Dramfool 26 Year Old 44th Release 1994
Light on the color and flavor given the age. This is more on the honey side for color and flavors than heavy wood. The “44th Release” is a vatting of two Tomatin 1994 bourbon hogshead casks (#6422 and #11210), assembled with input from Jim McEwan (the release write-up frames it as a deliberate “vatting” exercise, and they even offered constituent parts). In the nose I get a bit of solvent. On the palate light heat, hits on the sides of the tongue and a bit in the middle. It’s lasts for a while but given it’s not a bruiser you have to focus to notice it’s lingering. — 4 months ago

The Lucky Lizard Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2015
California butter, oak, buttered popcorn, citrus, and white florals on the nose. Palate also shows the same buttery oaky notes, but not as strong as some CA Chardonnay's. However, the mouthfeel does show it did spend some extra time on lees as it's creamy. Palate of; Lemon/lime, grapefruit, green apple, the oak on the palate shows a softer presence, secondary fruits are tropicals with dominate green melon, white flowers with good acidity and nice freshness. Spent 7 months in hogshead barrels (300 liters). Photos show the d'Arenberg cube that stands on the high hilltop. Opens later this year. I must say it really doesn't fit well into the McLaren Vale natural landscape in the other photo. Wonder how they got the plans approved with the MV Council?💰💰 — 9 years ago

On 25/1/17 Citrus Burst Speyside Linkwood Single Cask Release 1997. Linkwood single malt Scotch whisky, bottled by Wemyss and given the name Citrus Burst, which doesn't sound too dissimilar from the name of an ice cream or an exciting sweetie. It's not. It's a tasty, tasty single cask whisky which matured in a hogshead from 1997 to 2013. A release of 363 bottles. — 9 years ago

Hart Brothers Braeval 17 Year Old (distilled June 1998, bottled Sept 2015), sherry hogshead, cask strength 58.5% ABV, natural colour, non-chill filtered. I’m getting strong pine sap on the nose. Fading as it opens but still there. Bit of heat on the palate. Is a bit more more hot than anything for me. — 4 months ago
