One of Greece’s best kept secrets. Love the Koutsoyannopoulos wines. For fans of Hatzidakis and Sigalas. — 10 months ago

Mavrotagano Santorini Aegean Islands 2013

Delicious rustic red from Santorini, bright notes of citrus peel and pomegranate. Paired well with our lamb pasta at Sachet, definitely a food wine. Before food arrived, our guests implied there was too much acid for their taste, but not for me. This one needs some air before opening up. Would be very difficult to identify blind, very few reds with this profile. — 4 years ago

This is a great bottle. Mineral drive, good cut, medium+ body. Just really good wine that most people sleep on — 3 months ago

Incredible assyrtiko. If Hatzidakis is like Raveneau making Assyrtiko, Vassaltis is Dauvissat. — 7 months ago

@Ryan Colthorp well, it is 80% assyrt and 20% Aidani but on skins and sun dried so the color is a reddish purple! Got at K&L.

Ohhh nice! And I didn’t know you had K&L down in L.A. - there were 3 locations in the Bay Area.

Skitali Santorini Assyrtiko 2017

Wow. By far the most serious Greek wine I’ve tried. Enormous concentration and energy. Deep deep acids, beeswax, earth, citrus pith and lanolin, some smoke, leather and rubber phenolics. With time, some higher tone sour-fruit aromas of nectarine and tamarind emerge. Stoney bitterness and loads of minerals. Everything turned up to 11, but virtuosic. Ten years wouldn’t hurt this a bit. Keeps changing over 7 days open. Getting even more interesting. Pushing 9.6 — 8 months ago
