Gran Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Graciano 2015

In the Rioja heartland now so no more Champagne for a while. This amazingly comes with a fixed prices menu where you get a lot of amazing food at the price you would pay for this wine in the US — 8 years ago

The delta between the bouquet and attack is incredible. The nose hits like a dessert wine, and the first taste is dry, acidic, and earthy. — 8 years ago

Ronchi di Cialla

Colli Orientali del Friuli Schioppettino di Cialla 2016

A new tasting experience on several levels. Had never heard of or tasted this grape varietal, Schioppettino. I was looking for a lighter red off the menu at Settimo, Guy Grossi’s new Brisbane venture. Chosen purely because of its location in Friuli ie. cooler climate. The Somm was in the dark but the wine ended up being a revelation. Red cherry and cranberry - intense white pepper on nose and palate. Dried red florals. Love this style. Will be on the lookout for this Cuvée in the future. — 3 years ago

North east Italy is a hidden gem for wines.
Right up against the Dolmite Mountains, warm days, cool nights.
Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige really deliver.
Foradori, Franz Haas and Alois Lageder
are producers I look for.

Totally agree Jamie. I generally love cooler climate wines. In Italy the Valle d’Aosta is another example next to the Swiss Alps in the north west.

Haut-Bailly Dinner in SF with Veronique Sanders of Haut-Bailly.

The 2010 is an excellent vintage but, it is for the later part of your life or your children.

This is drinking beautifully with a 4 hour decant. The structure & tension are just starting to their softening stage. The length and balance are in the forget about it range and will just get better & better. Ripe, stunning fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, plum & a touch of blue fruits. Moist clay & top soils, stones, mint, graphite, fresh tobacco, dark cola, anise to black licorice with stunning, withering floral bouquet. Acidity is perfect. The finish is everything you want in a Bordeaux.

Definitely a 99-100 point wine in 15 years plus.

Served with the Cheese Plate; Red Hawk, Hop Along & Roquefort. @Mathilde French Bistro

Celebrating Bastille Day with the spring dinner of the Confrerie St Etienne of Alsace association. Wonderful menu and perfectly paired wines.

Wow. Leave it to the dessert wine to run away with Wine of the Night! Honeyed cashews, honeyed stone fruits, guava, pineapple, caramel and honeycomb. Like a lighter version of Dolce. Insanely good! On the hunt for some of this. Thought of you

@Shay A what dessert did they pair it with?
Shay A

@Peggy Hadley : It was paired with traditional Napoleon, which is fitting given the history of this wine...”Napoleon drank it on the island of St Helena to find solace in his lonely exile” according to the producers of this wine. Incredible pairing.
