Genghis Khan

Domaine de Torraccia

Oriu Vin de Corse Porto Vecchio Nielluccio Sciacarello 2005

Much debate about the pronunciation of “Sciacarello” which our somm helpfully settled by informing us that it’s actually “Shaka-rello”, as in Chaka Khan. Now that’s service! Anyway this was totally awesome, drinks like an aged Pinot or Nebbiolo with lots of umami notes of mushroom and teriyaki. — 6 years ago

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2008

Big sticker, big taste. Anniversary budget wine...Mingus Khan was gripping about the price until it was tasted. Big and bold. Huge black currant, cassis, and cedar/hemlock on the nose. Dry and tannic (pleasant) mouthfeel with a linger aftertaste that rivaled the hang time of Helman's Chanel. Not too fruity or juicy, great to pair with beef. Definitely worth it. — 12 years ago

This is a great one for sure. I have given my father a couple of their vintages and everyone is a hit.

Domaine Leflaive

Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 1996

Leflaive Montrachet 1996: Lush and full, with explosive flavors of citrus fruits, acacia blossom, spicy oak, and a hint sun-drenched asphalt. How long is the finish? How long do you have? A Chardonnay worthy of Coleridge's “Kubla Khan”: “he on honey-dew hath fed/ And drunk the milk of Paradise”. Less poetically, it is a Creamsicle with euphoric powers. "I'm every woman", says Debbie...

I think "I feel for you" - it's gotta be tough...

That's when I realise this wine is not Chaka Khan. What it is, though, is a fantastic Argie red.

Vanilla, berries, nubile tannins with a crisp finish... Likely the best bottle I've had from South America.
