Fleur de l'Europe Brut Champagne

A distinct shade of medium old gold with with persistent little bubbles. The nose is resplendent with apples of the green variety. An abundance of citrus scents along with yeast and a touch of nuttiness. Just a bit of smeared honey aromas goes a long way here.

Biodynamic and beautiful. Zero dosage and aged for six years, the strength here is balance and purity. Terroir driven and electric, this is an incisive and focused champagne. Composed of 85/15 Pinot Noir/Chardonnay and wonderfully dry. Lemons and dried herbs on the palate along with cherries and apples. Long and dry and lovely.

Les Brulees Nuits St. Georges Pinot Noir 2020

9.3

Wife’s birthday dinner at Jean-George’s in Philadelphia.

Domaine Gille Pinot was the best wine across both our wine pairings. Wouldn’t have guessed Pinot or France from the nose and palate. Rich, deep, earthy wine.

Vosne-Romanée Pinot Noir 2017

Not cheap (yeah! Which Vosne Romanée is?), but it certainly delivered a clean, expressive, sour cherries driven, expression. Fennel to the red fruit, a metallic note, slightly jammy for Burgundy, with good acid and structure that makes me think why in hell I opened up this so early. — 3 years ago
