Five Branches

Minus Five Riesling 2013

Had the 2103 vintage, on the sweet side, but not sickeningly sweet. — 12 days ago

Teutonic Wine Company

David Hill Vineyard Chasselas Doré 2015

Yellow-white, excellent clarity. White floral and lemon peel notes in nose. Candied lemon fruit flavor, slight trace of lemon fruit sweetness with a core of lemon pulp tartness, good acidity overall, mineral finish with lingering lemon fruit flavor. Really intriguing varietal, well made wine. Five variations on fresh lemon expression in a white table wine? It could be, impressionistically, at least. — 7 days ago

Shafer Vineyards

One Point Five Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Not usually a fan of of Shafer products ( i know don’t hate). For New a years in Hawaii, this pair very well with my filets. Burnt black cherry rolls the palate with some sexy floral notes. — 17 days ago

Really enjoyed. Fruity on the nose, nice finish — a month ago

Albino Rocca

Vigneto Brich Ronchi Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2004

This tiny 2 ha cru is truly the Vosne-Malconsorts of Barbaresco. Five spice, cumin, coriander, soy, black tea. At its apogee. Epic, feminine and engaging. — 16 days ago

Columbia Crest

Private Reserve Walter Clore Columbia Valley Red Blend 2014

Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (46%) and Merlot (36%) the 2014 Columbia Crest ‘Walter Clore Private Reserve’ Red Wine is a gorgeous wine that is showing marvelously at five years of age. Coming from an exceedingly warm vintage in Washington, the spicy tones and deep core of dark fruit aromas mingle nicely in the glass. Generous and showing a plush texture, this has wonderful length with blackberry pie, cigar box, anise, Turkish coffee and shades of blueberry compote. The long finish lingers. Spectacular now, this beautiful wine will cellar well for the next fifteen years. Drink 2019-2033- 93 — 8 days ago

Cain Vineyard & Winery

Cain Five Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Strong rustic and pine aromatics almost overwhelm at the beginning, before settling down an hour later to allow the mountain fruit and more subtle forest notes to show off. Not hot, great mouthfeel, and a long finish. Even better the next day. — 12 days ago

Luigi Pira

Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Have had this in the cellar for five years, wanted to wait til it was a decade old.
Olives, tar, fennel, plum skin, cherries and earth. Plenty of life ahead but so good now.
Needs air and needs food. Paired with NY strip, asparagus with preserved lemon, and garlic mashed potatoes. Boozy and grippy.

A. Rafanelli

Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

“Let me tell you somethin’! Let me tell you...✋🏼. Don’t drink these now. Seriously. Just don’t. Five years from now? That’s probably okay. But not now. Unless...unless you are willing to decant for an extended period of time or slow-ox for three days. Patience will be rewarded however if you allow time to do its work. Only then do you get the classic Rafanelli of red and dark fruit with chocolate, coffee, tobacco and baking spices; executed in a most seductive fashion. Sound structure. The finish is long. This is a great vintage from Rafanelli with a long life ahead. Better after 2025. — 3 days ago

I have such a hard time hanging on to Rafanelli! That being said had some aged—1980 something—at a restaurant recently and my goodness it was great

@Ellen Clifford Damn...that’s OG Rafanelli. I’ve only had their wines going back into the 90’s but I can imagine older stuff still hanging in there.

@Jay Kline definitely the oldest Zin I’d had! I double checked and it was a 1986. This restaurant Peppones has an amazing wine list with substantial deals, I think it cost us maybe 50 bucks.
