Wowza! Even though youthful, unresolved and somewhat closed, this wine exudes beauty and finesse in the making. More old world in style, a pretty translucent garnet color with fine but noticeable tannin. Semi-ripe cherries, leather, and mushroom with hints of orange peel and rose petals. As others have noted, quite Burgundian in style. Strongly recommend, and plan to revisit in 3-5yrs. — 3 years ago

Medium deep garnet with a quite wide garnet rim . Aromatic with rose , pressed flowers , dried earth , forest floor . On the palate delicate with finesse , more red fruits than dark , those earthy notes and forest floor also, red currant , touch of smoke . Pretty melted tannins , good fresh acidity . Just starting to dry out perhaps on the finish so I would drink sooner than later . I get the impression that the aroma is so interesting and complex but the palate just lacks a little depth . But all in all this is quintessential Margaux. Drink now and over the next 5-8 years. — 3 months ago

Oh my, what an absolute joy. This right here sings the song I want to hear. A pale old gold color in the glass. Perfectly precise perlage with a plethora of tiny, fine bubbles and showcasing innate creaminess. The nose is slightly intense opening with aromas of hazelnut, chalk, and lemon zest. Warm buttered brioche takes over for a moment full of bliss then a bit of smoke. Juicy peaches and pears commingle with fresh herbs and spices.

100% Chardonnay from the five Grand Cru villages of Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Oger, and Mesnil-sur-Oger. The tête de cuvée of Champagne Taittinger and it shows. It’s a very noble, prestigious champagne that matches complexity with downright deliciousness. The juxtaposition between luxury and comfort is evident here. Like coming out of a bath and slipping on your finest robe. The racy acidity and exquisitely dry nature of the wine belies the dosage of 9 g/l.

Very creamy in the mouth and though it starts off a bit demanding, it soon becomes so inviting after some time. Every sip demands the proper time and contemplation. Chalky and rich, positively bursting with citrus fruits. Apples and toast everywhere along with gun flint and more smoke. Medium long finish with traces of spice. A powerful, graceful champagne that’s full of finesse. This can go for decades longer but if you open it now sit with it for a while. Give it the proper time. Some slight oak traces and lemon on the palate. A wine with some reduction but also that is delicious with good concentration , minerality and nice balance overall. Lacks depth and finesse of the best Grands Crus but still a good bottle. 90-91

Nez qui a encore une touche boisée et des notes citronnées. Un vin avec une touche de réduction mais qui est délicieux, belle concentration, minéral avec une certaine richesse, assez en équilibre, n’a pas la classe et l’élégance des grands mais c’est très bon. 90-91 — 4 years ago

The new vintage at Battenfeld Spanier is always exciting. And 2020 is a doozy. Superb confectionary nose with kumquats, cotton candy, citrus, even more complex citrus and that tell tale limestone minerality. Really gorgeous penetrating minerality. So pure and deep. What a nose. I love love this wine. 2013 was our first ever white wine of the year. The vivid citrus character is really just gorgeous here. What a palate. A masterclass in elegance and skeletal structure. So clean, so mineral. Just washes your palate with minerals. Terrific inner mouth citrus aromas and also the tell tale vanilla extract and nougat flavors. Terrific energy and depth but what this really is about is the top top 1% finesse. A remarkable 1er Cru from Battenfeld Spanier. As it airs it gets sappier and juicier. But it retains this just monster finesse. Almost a 9.5. The finish is so clean and so pure. This is a stunning wine and unlike any Hohen Sulzen I’ve ever had.

Nose gets honeyed after air with Judy stunning and vivid fruit. Some papaya but juuuuuuust ripe. This is so good. Wow, that mineral wash combined with the gorgeous citrus fruit character is something else. — 3 years ago
