This wine is medium dark garnet in the glass. The nose has a good supply of cherry and raspberry notes, dusted up with earth, tar and anise. The palate has a bit of licorice on it, but mainly serves as a showcase for the red fruit. There are some spicy elements, too. White pepper, nutmeg, and a very light clove sense brighten up the fruit. Tannic structure is firm and acidity refreshing. I had mine with a slow cooker red wine short rib dish, and the pairing was sublime. — a month ago
Birthday Barolo! Mmmm this is good stuff. Late bottle release - aged in the Anselma cellar until 2024. Deep nose of macerated dark cherries. Bright red cherries at first, with tight tannins, sharp acid and a lot of structure. Herbal, dry, dusty finish. Still feels quite young after all these years (like me??), but I just opened it and it’s still developing…
5 hours later: more dried berry notes, black pepper and bitters. Still pretty restrained and dry. Not fruit forward, but refined with nice complexity. — 3 months ago
v15. Delicious! Dried herb and crushed blackberry grape nose. Fresh, rich, blackberry, soft plum and slightly tar fruit. Smooth dried herb, earthy, chocolate finish. — a day ago
