Iris Vineyards

Willamette Valley Pinot Gris 2017

Good Pinot Gris in typical Oregon fashion. Light, crisp, fruit forward with stone fruit and lemon zest. Nice find. Hadn’t had this vineyard before. Located in Cottage Grove, Oregon (near Eugene), fruit sources from Chalice Estate and Confluence Vineyards. Dijon clones. 4500 cases produced. The 2016 vintage yielded a 91 score from Wine Enthusiast and an Editor’s Choice for wine. No doubt the 2017 will as well. Seek this one out to try. It’s amazing QPR, winery retail is $16. I picked it up for less at a Portland wine shop. — 7 years ago

Heri-Hodie 1er Cru Champagne Blend

An underrated producer, in my opinion, though my first time with the Heri-Hodie cuvée.

100% Pinot meunièr; perpetual reserve in stainless since 1995; 3g/l dosage; disgorged March 2023

I’ve said it before, but meunièr can really strut its stuff via perpetual reserve/solera style. The natural fruit forward tendency of the grape with the oxidative character of the aging profile marry really well. My benchmarks for this style are Mousse Fils L’Or de Eugene and Delouvin’s Perpetual…both of those show a bit more richness and spiced cider, whereas the stainless steel here provides a brighter lift. Needed a few hours in bottle to open, lots of red apple, yellow citrus and orange zest, and cinnamon aromatically. Trending toward golden apple and pear on the palate, this has a kiss of honeyed richness on the mid-palate before the limestone mineral takes over at the finish. Tasty.

Grande Réserve Brut Champagne Blend

9.2

My first experience here. 67meunier/ 25chard/ 8pinot. About a third of the wine is perpetual reserve going back to 1998. 2016 base, disgorged 2019.

At the price, and based on style, first comparison that comes to mind is Mousse Fils L’Or Eugene. There is something magical that happens with meunier in how it transforms with reserve wine. So much brown spiced pear aromatics…savory honey and apple spice too. Where this differs from the Mousse Fils is that the mid palate is just a touch less rich/more bright (due to the Chardonnay component), but it adds a really cool profile to this champagne. The reserve wine makes an appearance toward the finish as it has a cider-like flair. Great fruit with a vein of acidity, a beautiful combo of bright/aged characteristics. Definite re-buy.

Acrobat Wines

Oregon Pinot Noir 2018

Tonight I have opened the 2018 Acrobat Pinot Noir. King Estate Eugene, Oregon.

Onnthe nose there is cherry, strawberry, raspberry, spices, chocolate, vanilla and earth.

On the palate there is nice notes of cherry, strawberry, raspberry, cola, herbs, spice, clove, forest floor and earth.

This wine is medium bodiedwith medium acidity and medium + fine tannins which moves seamlessly into a medium to long fruity earthy finish. Here it is Thursday evening moving into the weekend and this wine really sets the tone. A quality wine that at this price point is a wonderful QPR. Please lets start the weekend off with love and happiness and enjoy each others company. Please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Vina Belje

Graševina

A fabulous find!! Grasevina is a dry, fresh, aromatic white wine with apple-like notes. It’s typically considered to be a neutral and easy-drinking wine. The everyday wine of Central Europe, Grasevina is also known as Welschriesling. Recognizable features of the grape are its acid and slight almond-like bitterness. Belje began in 1697 when Roman Emperor Leopold gifted the estate to Prince Eugene of Savoy. The wine is straw yellow with hints of light green. The wine itself is beautifully fruity and flowery, fresh and crisp acidity that resembles citrus with the slightest hint of sweetness. This wine is well balanced, finishes with a beautiful orange peel note and a nice bite. An exceptional food-friendly wine that is unfairly overlooked and underappreciated.  Surdyks March 2023 $13.99 (Reg $16.99) — 3 years ago

King Estate

Oregon Pinot Noir 2011

Starting the week off with the 2011 King Estate Pinot Noir from Eugene, OR. King Estate is located 20 miles southwest of Eugene, OR on the southwest edge of the Willamette Valley on 1033 acres certified organic vineyard. I tried this four years ago and it has seemed to have matured a bit sunce then in those four years. A more pleasurable wine this time around.

On the nose there is beautiful fruit of strawberry, cherry, red raspberry, cranberry, vanilla, a little barnyard, cola and a slight bit of licorice.

On the palate I am getting sour cherry, tart strawberry, red raspberry, pomegranate, vanilla, eucalyptus and a light oak note.

The wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and medium smooth tannin that leads right into a medium to long beautiful tart fruit prolonged finish. A very nice wine that is an easy drinker. The week is starting off right so have a great week and be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷
