Vigna Soccorso Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

2013 is a real beauty, and worth seeking out at this price point. More old-school stylistically with sour cherry fruit character, herbal punch and slightly dusty tannin. Silky in the mouth with purity and focus. — 4 months ago

Riserva Pipparello Montefalco Rosso Sangiovese Blend 2008

Every grape in this blend is doing its job. The color is outstanding. The Sagrantino gives the Sangio significantly more backbone without overpowering the flavor and dominating the blend. The Montepulciano gives you a full finish. I have another bottle of this, which I am thrilled about. This is way up there, possibly the best wine I’ve drunk in 2020. Paolo Bea and Enzo Pontodi are two of the greatest wine makers in my version of Italy. — 6 months ago

Buio Langhe Nebbiolo

2002 was a very difficult vintage, but the Buio (coming partially from Arione vineyard) is showing perfectly right now. — 2 months ago

Enzo Bianchi San Rafael Red Blend 2009

Excellent very large Argentinian wine that has improved and has more time to go! Try again in ten years. — 3 months ago

Poggio Cerrino Rosso Di Montalcino Sangiovese 2014

A little angry, lean and uneven to start. Needed a night after being open to calm down and integrate. A relaxed rosso drinks better: strawberry, black cherry, red plum, licorice and herbs. I love the classic profile. I never thought I’d say this, but I don’t love the aggressive acidity - probably the result of a cool and difficult vintage - that is waging war with my stomach lining. This lean wine needs food. I’d suggest something richer and fattier than the Ropa Vieja (night 1) and Amy’s frozen vegetarian lasagna (night 2). — 6 months ago

HG III Napa Valley Red Blend 2017

Drank with Enzo beet salad and frites. Stood up to the vinegar. Would buy again. Tasted like wine we would have at Enzo, ironically, since we had the food as take out. — 2 months ago
