Duncan Savage

Savage Syrah 2018

I’ve been excited to revisit Duncan Savage’s eponymous red from the 2018 vintage, which I last tried around four years ago having just shaken off a bout of Covid, senses struggling. Even then, it was clear how promising this wine was, and now, with a little more bottle age, it’s absolutely singing. It’s a pure, bright fruited 100% Syrah which has a tremendous savoury character, with a telltale bolt of iron on the nose. On the palate it has enormous structure, with sappy blood orange fruit and white pepper, and wonderful minerality. This is such an utterly drinkable wine, with more than enough in the tank for another decade or two. Wonderful stuff. — 6 months ago

Savage Grace

Dineen Vineyard Côt 2020

Purple, dense, high pigment extraction. Black currant and tobacco on nose, black plum and blackberry in mouth. Medium skin astringency, tart and puckery but fruit forward. Light alcohol. Love this style of Malbec, highly drinkable. Worth decanting but I lack the patience and just dig in. — a month ago

Underwood Mountain Vineyards Pinot Noir 2019

We visited this winery a few days ago. Thoroughly enjoyed the conversation with the winemaker, completely enjoyed how he makes the wines and were drawn in by how good the wines tasted. Out tonight enjoying salmon and this bottle shows beautifully. Some light dark berries and earth tones couple to make a very soft, wonderful Pinot. — 6 months ago
