Another vintage, another lovely Chianti Classico Riserva from Castello di Monsanto which continues to be a benchmark for wines from San Donato in Poggio. Popped and poured; enjoyed over two days and consistent over both. The 2019 Monsanto CCR pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and no signs of sediment. On the nose, baked mixed berries, dried green herbs, red carnations, dried gravely earth. On the palate, the wine is dry. Medium+ tannin and Medium+ acid. Confirming the notes on the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely pairing with almost any red sauce dish. Drinking well now and I expect it will continue to do so through 2034. — 7 months ago
Very nice Sonoma Pinot; well reviewed and well regarded. For the price, though, I was expecting more. In fact, I am ever so slightly disappointed, given the hype. Not as complex and beguiling as Marcassin. Other Pinots all over California compare favorably, at half the price. I bought two bottles, so let’s see if this improves with a bit more age. Had the 2018 vintage with Christmas duck, duck, goose (Cantonese roast duck and Peking Duck from Hop Woo and house roasted goose—mmmm!). — 2 years ago
The color of the 2000 Pignan is a brilliant pale ruby color and slightly cloudy. Noticeably lighter in complexion than the others in the CdP flight. Yep…it has that scintillating, heady nose that is so unique to Rayas. Pine needles, wild strawberries, cardamom…woof. This bottle had some VA but I didn’t mind. Perhaps not the most exciting Rayas but I’m splitting hairs here. A very nice pairing with cassoulet, Toulouse sausage and duck confit. Drink now and through 2035. Merci Matt! — 2 months ago
Why not a triple 100’scored wine when you can have lunch with your most precious loved ones in the back yard. Duck fat fried potatoes and Gruyère melted cheese on steak supported this excellent Bordeaux. Vigorous but polished tannins combined with punchy acidity carried the dark elegant fruit to a lingering finish that led you right to the next sip. — 2 years ago
Delicious CDP. Paired as well with duck as with scallops in a buerre blanc sauce. — 4 years ago
Compared to 2001; leafier, mintier, greener. Prunier, figgier, meatier. Soy sauce, mushroom, forest floor, bacon fat (could be just less Brett than 2001), pencil shavings. — 8 months ago
Wow so good! Natural sparkling rosé with lotttsss of sediment. Juicy orange character makes this very drinkable. I love how inventive Portuguese wines are lately. — 2 years ago
Very typical warm vintage Rhone, slightly lower acidity than usual. Despite the half bottle, it got better as the lunch with duck went along — 4 years ago
