A Tribute to Grace Wines

Hofer Vineyard Grenache 2019

What can I say I love anything Angela makes, and the new Tribute to Grace tasting room in Los Alamos is a gem. My Dad declared this was his favorite wine ever and my mom is from nearby Cucamonga, so let’s just say everyone was happy. For that reason, wine of our trip out west after not seeing the folks for 18 months. As always, just incredibly elegant Grenache, light on its feet, but not without its nuanced power — 5 years ago

Raisiny goodness. Heated raisin with baked plumberry on the palate. Long lighthearted lasting finish, with a gingerlike heat. Pleasantly light for a dessert wine. — 8 years ago

Hermann York Wine

A Lone Wolf Bob Munoa Ranch 2020

Opened and brought to a Charity dinner. So many wines open, so this was hardly touched. Brought home and enjoyed over nine (yes 9) days. Made as a Rosé, this wine has some weight to it. Wonderful first effort from the Hermann York team, who are making excellent wines from SoCal old vine vineyards in Antelope Valley, Rancho Cucamonga and others. This one is from a 120 year old own-rooted vineyard on the Pechanga Reservation near Temecula, planted 60 years prior to the current commercial vineyards in the area. Mission, Grenache and probably some hybrids, as the vineyard had been abandoned for about 60 years. This had plenty of CO2 to keep it alive, with a nice Champagne pop even on day 8. A good group of guys making fun and interesting wines! — 3 years ago

Aslin Beer Company

Take It In To Cooperation Sour Ale

Greg Ballington
9.0

#VABeerMonth

One of the beers our buddy Zack (@MyLifeIsAComicality) traded with us. This canning is a collaboration between Aslin Beer Company in Herndon, VA and Kings Brewing Company in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Made as a sour ale with peach, mango, raspberry, pink guava, vanilla and milk sugar. 5.0% Alc/Vol.

Cloudy and opaque pink almost like a grapefruit with a light head. Stinky to start on the nose with a bit of guava and more tropical fruits. Medium to medium plus bodied with some tart characteristics coming through. Quite refreshing and crisp mouthfeel with some tropical, sour red berries and stone fruit notes. Medium plus finish.

$$ - $4.51 a can.

Scar of the Sea

Lopez Vineyard Palomino 2022

Really pretty and complicated bottle. A bit orange, definitely some skin contact. The aromas lean heavily towards dried fruit in the vein of apricot, mango, and pineapple. Some salted almonds and ginger. — 3 years ago

Old Vine Lopez Ranch Zinfandel 2012

Hello fellow wine connoisseurs. Tonight I am trying a wonderful old vine Zinfandel from Cucamonga Valley where I had the privilege of visiting over the Christmas Holidays. If your looking for a wine you can drink that isn't as light as a pinot or as heavy as a cab, this zin is awesome!!!!
The cork was perfectly preserved. The color is dark purple but you can see your hand through the wine looking down on the glass. It is not as transparent as a Pinot Noir however. The legs are long and thick at about a 6 second drip. This is surprising. The initial bouquet is very light , reminds me of lavender and honey. EXCELLENT! The initial palate gives hints of grapes and dark berries with an amazing buttery texture. WOW. The finish is a bit sour like green apples and yet dissipates quickly leaving the flavor of buttered toast with blackberry jam. Don't get me wrong, it is very dry. It is in no way sweet. The after taste dissipates completely in five seconds leaving you thirsty for more. I can hardly wait to sip again. You should have at least a case of this wine on hand at all times. Oh yes, it is a 2012!
