Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Clos St. Denis Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1990

super fruit and a real Vosne spice nose. Was shocked to see it was CSD. — 10 months ago

Henri Jouan

Clos St. Denis Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2009

A fun 09 side by side next to the MG Ech. This was my first Jouan and it was really quite stunning. More masculine than the MG, expectedly, and the CSD terroir really shines through. Exceptional length as well.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1989

Dark, deep tawny color. Translucent. Funky nose. Notes of red fruit, sandalwood, rhubarb, sweet candied cherries and some cured meat. Nice mouth feel, but maybe a little thin? Clearly from a high end producer, I guessed 90 Dujac CSD. — a year ago

Domaine Ponsot

Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1990

Third 90 Ponsot bottle served blind. This is bright tawny and translucent. When compared to the CSD served before it, this is more masculine with a dark cherry nose that is tight for the first 4-5 hours. By the time it’s served, though, it’s opened up and comes on as a rich and very powerful glass of juice. In addition to the regular notes of bing cherry, dark earth and rhubarb, this adds some mocha and a little cherry cola as well. Has a Rousseau-like precision in its delivery. From where it started to where it ended ~9 hours after opening, this evolved and improved the most. Great experience! (Bday 8 of 12) — 3 years ago

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2001

Tantalizing Cherry, black truffle nose, just delicious. More feminine than the CsD along side it, but how can one possibly choose their fave?
