Enderle & Moll

Baden Spätburgunder Rosé 2014

So...I had a birthday a couple weeks back and due to scheduling, my regular bottle finishing team wasn't available until now, so we're finally doing it up in my grand, unique style.

Notes possibly tomorrow, scores honestly tonight.

Decanted 6H.

24-Hour Update:
Nose has cedar, over-ripe cherry, crushed red currant, crisp red pepper slice, old leather, blackberry jam, over-ripe cranberry, black pepper and dry garden soil.
Palate has strawberry jam, tart cherry, dried cherry, orange zest, blackberry fruit gummy, dried tangerine, volcanic rocks and warm molasses cookie.
In a fine spot, anyone holding this in proper storage could probably expect this to live to a 10th birthday.

Pinot Noir 2017

Very nice German Pinot Noir or Blauburgunder.

Notes of rhubarb, strawberries, jam and leather. A bit of a bite at first but mellower with a little time opened and with food.

Crab cakes, shrimp, asparagus and risotto. Chocolate cookie with salt to finish.

Buffalo Trace Distillery

Old Weller Antique Original 107 Brand Wheated Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Peach cobbler, caramel-apple, baked pear tartlet, pine nettle, sweet corn, dried red cherry, cedar-on-grill, brown sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, chilies, generous oak that includes acorns, crisp vanilla cookie make the nose. Hot initially, with oregano oil, cinnamon and tobacco. Revisit yields subtleties, including lemon oil, grapefruit pith, orange peel, arabica, eucalyptus, apricot, red chilies, Mexican cigar spices, and peppercorn dust. Cinnamon-oak builds to a crescendo of resinous might in a cloud of foundry smoke. Allspice appears with oregano following hot on its trail. Château Coutet

La Chartreuse de Coutet Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2011

Quite consistent with my notes from ~6 months ago:

Nose has over-ripe apricot, almond oil, marzipan, meringue cookie and cold butter.
Palate has warmed apricot pie with extra flakey, buttery crust, sweet sand, white flower honey and mango.

Admittedly I love Sauternes and have many bottles, yet it's a rarity on opening and posting to the Community. We paired this bottle with a hard, smoked goat cheese from a local, Hudson valley producer, a solid match of sweet and salty.

Lindstrom Wines

Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Most restricted wine of them all. I've got a 14 of this so I will plan on locking it away for 15 years or so. Sweeter black fruit dominated front. For some reason in the middle of this, I was getting an oatmeal chocolate cookie note with some dates and black pepper on the finish. Softer tannin, but ample. Solid 92 now, perhaps capable of more? — 8 years ago

HL Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Not bad from cork pop, but definitely better after 90 min of air. Nose is youthful oak and slightly ripe blackberry, sandalwood. Palate all ripe blackberry and attenuated pepper spice with a hint of sandalwood. Some iodine when moving to the mid-palate. Initially I was getting a a fairly strange Oreo cookie kind of note. The finish is a little direct and still a bit on the youthful side but this is gaining. The best years of this are ahead of it for sure. Going to be a force in 2023 and plan to hold my 3L of this for much much longer. — 6 years ago

@Shay A I read that update about 10 minutes before I popped the cork on this one. It was kind of bizarre that I brought it along after holding on to it for a couple of years....

815 California Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

I am revisiting this wine from last year. It pours a rust red. It is dry with a very long finish now. Vanilla is present on the finish. The “Vanilla Coke cookie” flavor has evolved some, more of a Sophisticated Dr. Pepper with some fruit. Wishing I would have bought more - it is aging very well. — 7 years ago

Tintot Special Cuvée Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2015

Victim to experiment. 85 percent Mourvedre, balance is grenache. Thick. Poured like tar into the glass. Nose of wildflowers and oateal raisin cookie. Entry is inky, thick purple and black fruit dominated. Tame acidity. Nutmeg. Spice. Plum mingles in the middle. Finishes sweet, black pepper, and a surprising amount of dry tannin. Sweet and chalky powerful finish. Don't think I would have pegged this for a 15 as this has so many characteristics of both a young and an older CDP. I cringe to know where this will be in 5 to 10 years. — 8 years ago

Velvet Glove McLaren Vale Shiraz 2007

This wine did well with a little bit of air. It was a little bit dark and mysterious before it had a chance to open. More of a tobacco and muted figs. Seemed to get more youthful and more fruit forward and more peppery on the finish as the hours went on. Started showing a cinnamon spice cookie note in addition to all the black fruit backbone. This is my first experience with this wine and hopefully won't be last. — 8 years ago
