The oldest wines appearing on the menu at Villa Baccaris, montforte’ alba are 2000. Beautifully smooth, still complex but are all great old wines in good condition more alike than different? 390 euros. — 9 months ago

Light opaque slightly darker than a good rose. Beautiful aroma of roses and strawberries blows from the glass. Absolutely smooth and silken on the attack... with a long lingering caress as you swallow. Nose keeps changing with air...but single best Nebbiolo I've ever drunk... so this is what they mean. Delightful companion to an exceptional evening of Italian fine dining. Bravo for the wine-- and bravo for chef Mark Ladner. — 9 years ago

Very dark and deep. Blue fruit, cola, spice, notes of caramel on the nose. Very intense on the palate... gorgeous purple fruit, hints of raisin, dark plum, dry wood and a meaty gaminess to the core. Like cahors or pommard to the Vosne of the conterno. Fascinating alongside the others and very good. — 8 years ago

Very solid Nebbiolo, quite fresh and youthful, un evolved still, not as fine as the '85 A. Conterno Barolo, but awfully good. — 12 years ago

Il Ritrivo in Positano. Popped and poured. Light scarlet in the glass. Thin and translucent. This starts off very quiet, offering some ripe cherries and spice. With air it gains a little bit of body and adds some nice sweet fruit but never emerges fully to show what it’s got. Compared to the A Conterno Cicala next to it, this is delicate, feminine and a bit of a surprise it didn’t have more to show. Not sure about this. Probably just needs time. — 7 years ago
