Smoky graphite and mineral opening with fully integrated tannins and overall cohesion. Lovely floral and berry mix with mulberry, cassis and currant, lavender, rose, and violet. Strong showing on a 38 year old wine.

The 1982 Léoville Poyferré is a vintage that I have not seen for a while. This bottle is splendid. It is Ferrous on the nose and offers wilted rose petals, asphalt and pencil shavings, now firmly into its secondary aromatic phase yet maintaining impressive delineation and freshness. Maybe a little rustic compared to recent vintages, yet charming. The palate is very well balanced, and there is a touch of Brettanomyces that would be understandable given the warmth of the growing season. Cedar and graphite flourish toward the finish. This is at a peak now, and as I averred before, I would drink these sooner unless you have larger formats on your hands. The Saint-Esprit 2020 Côtes-du-Rhône Delas offers a commendable representation of the region. On the nose, it presents a medley of red and black fruit, accompanied by subtle hints of black pepper and a touch of dried herbs. The palate showcases a balanced interplay between its fruit-forward character and a well-integrated acidity. Medium-bodied, it carries a structured frame of fine-grained tannins, providing a pleasant texture. While the wine exhibits a satisfactory length on the finish, there’s a slight yearning for more complexity and depth. Overall, the Saint-Esprit 2020 is an enjoyable, approachable Côtes-du-Rhône, though it doesn’t quite reach the heights of exceptional. — 6 months ago

Yet another overachieving ‘22 Provence rosé; very satisfying after recent Provence vintages produced a cloying totty fruity pop. White flowers with a pinch of pepper greets you on the first swill. There’s some nice pineapple juice in the middle palate that takes you unexpectedly to a dry finish. This is good stuff and certainly worth a try. — 9 months ago
