Haunting and classic nose. Elegant and gorgeous mid to late season cherries. Lifted and bright. Gorgeous depth, refinement and minerality. Superb juiciness and energy. Lovely acidity and depth. Treacly and ripe but so complex. I love this. A tick below the 19. Now the stoney minerality shows up on the nose as does the florals. Classic and beautiful. Saline. Unreal purity. Juicy and so complex with ripe and sweet tannins and wonderful sweet fruit. A bit young and tooti frooti but air will regulate it. That nose is so good and the the highlight so far. Superb length on the palate. — 2 years ago

The nose was awesome. Beautiful youthful Pinot. The first taste was incredible, after nearly an hour of decanting. But I do have to say the mid-palate seemed to fade away a bit disappointingly, over the following hour it seemed to relax a bit too much. Overall a very nice wine, but the white was more exciting. — 8 years ago

The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle sous la Chapelle is fairly muted. Two hours in the decanter help unwind a restrained bouquet of rose pedals, violets, red and black cherry, cranberry, wood smoke and hints of iodine. Just a notch below full-bodied, the wine is tightly structured and embodies an underlying strength, which undoubtedly will be unleashed after a few years of bottle aging. I wouldn't dare touching this for at least 10 more years. Drink from 2030 until 2050. — 2 years ago
