Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Moelleux Chenin Blanc 2022

I did not know that it existed and I had way too much wine to order another bottle but could not resist trying it. It is very complex, extremely aromatic, starts out as a dry wine and gradually develops in the glass, very smooth but with very nice acidity true to a chenin. Wonderful. — 4 days ago

Domaine du Collier

Saumur Blanc Chenin Blanc 2009

Popped and poured, consumed over several hours. Initially served chilled and then allowed to come up to room temperature. It should be noted that this was lovely from the first pour but improved with air and as it warmed. The 2009 Domaine du Collier Saumer Blanc pours a bright golden color, with no signs of sediment or gas. High viscosity. On the nose, this is extremely floral…like being in a grove of magnolia trees in full bloom. The flowers are accompanied by bright citrus fruit, lanolin, alfalfa and honey. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. The notes from the bouquet are confirmed and accompanied by the most lovely, almost oily texture. This is oh so woolly! The finish goes long. This is my first experience with Antoine’s wine and I’m now absolutely smitten (thanks Tim). A simply gorgeous example of Chenin from a warm vintage and an alternative to Joly if you crave a natural touch…but not too natural. This is a banger now and will continue to be so for some time. Wow.

Wednesday Wine Committee. Great hosting by Gavin. 1 sparkler, 4 whites, 4 reds and 2 dessert wines. All served blind as usual.

Classic and down the middle. Almost Viognier like with the floral aromatics and lack of acidity. Cinnamon, baking spices, lemon bar, and sea shell notes on the palate. Bordering on steely.

Les Vieux Clos Savennières Chenin Blanc 2022

2022. Our sommelier knew that we have enjoyed several different Chenin Blanc wines with the food at The Oven and poured me a taste of this wine from an opened bottle. Beautiful aromas of apple/apple cider/blossoms. High acidity and medium body. — a month ago

This wine is in a different orbit. I can safely say I have never tasted a wine this smooth, this balanced, this subtle… this uplifting. Fine polished tannins take this juicy, vibrant fruit infused with black olive and lifted with earthy notes from the stones of the Rocks District to a finish that stays with you for minutes and can only make you think of one thing: I want another sip…. but I I want this wine to last for ever ….good problem to have 😁. Like Nicholas Joly said. A good wine makes you feel something deeply inside and you can ‘feel’ the wine. This one sure did. — 7 months ago

17.5. Savennieres doesn’t get much better. This has more acidity than the usual Baumard or Joly, but lots of fruit, v long. Could hold 5+ years. — 6 years ago

Started off with a very strong nose of apple cider and not much taste. After an hour and change, had a lovely nose of baked apple and spices, and tasted sweeter. Reminded me of a Joly Savennieres — 7 years ago

Clau de Nell Chenin Blanc 2017

Presented double-blind at Tasting Group. The wine pours a deep yellow with a transparent core and medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of mixed orchard fruits, white flowers, undigested hay, honey and minerals. A touch wooly. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+ and the texture is waxy. Initial conclusions: this could be Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc or potentially Viura and even Chardonnay from France, Spain or the USA. However, this is made in a more oxidative style and it’s really hard to take this anywhere but France…maybe Spain if this were Rioja Blanco. But that wooly quality and texture has me in the Loire Valley. Final conclusion: Chenin Blanc from France, Loire Valley, Savennières with 5-10 years of age. Pretty darned close! Scoring points for sure. I gotta say, this almost gave me Joly vibes. Fun stuff. Drink now through 2032. — 6 months ago

Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Savennières Chenin Blanc 2019

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2019 pours a pale yellow color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with intense, ripe notes of Comice pears, baked green apple, mixed fruit cup, lemons, white tree flowers, lanolin, raw almond, tarragon, a touch of raw honey and minerals. On the palate, the wine is off-dry(?) with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is waxy. I questioned the off-dry call because I actually think it’s dry but the power and ripeness of the fruit, not to mention the 15% ABV(!!), give the impression of sweetness. An utterly balanced wine despite the big personality. A wine that gives main character energy. I wish I had a week or more to track the development because this is such a wee babe. Drink now to experience its youth and enjoy through 2049. — 10 months ago

I can completely relate to your tasting note about the mouthfeel being reminiscent of that of an off-dry wine. I had the same impression when tasting a 2013 a few years back. It was clearly a dry wine but with the touch of a sweet nectar.

Palette Grand Cru de Provence Grenache Rosé Blend 2015

I tend to love the weird wines made from masters. Think Paolo Bea Arboreous or Joly Coulee de Serrant or LDH Rose.

Everything about this is artificially flavored candy. It looks like cherry lollipop and smells like red Kool-Aid and Robitusson. Tastes like watermelon Jolly Rancher.

Powerful and viscous as hell, even hot. I know these can age forever and I’d love to see an older bottle. Tons of fun.
