Vintage 2005 | the only Bergerac I ever put in the cellar, after tasting it at Brabantse Wijnsocieteit. After 18 years it still has potential to develop further. Certainly the level of St Emilion Grand Cru or top Cru Bourgeois. It must be difficult when you are a vintner with aspirations to live and work in areas that does not sell at a higher price, like Bergerac. The wine is excellent, deep coloured, laurel and black summerfruit, cherries, a bit rough and stubborn tannins - I popped and poured - and nice aftertaste. I searched for recent years but can only find a white cuvée. Lots of character. | Paired with a burger. — 3 years ago

A refined and confidently composed Saint-Émilion driven by a 78% Merlot-dominant blend with 20% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon support, showcasing noble structure, polished fruit, and effortless balance. The wine emphasizes finesse, reliability, and clarity rather than sheer power, delivering a harmonious expression that feels immediately approachable while retaining long-term pedigree.

Black cherry, blackberry, red plum, crushed limestone, violet petal, subtle graphite, cocoa powder, gentle spice and fresh herbal nuance.
Mouthfeel
Medium-plus body with a supple, graceful entry, finely woven tannins, beautifully integrated acidity, excellent mid-palate harmony, and a long, elegant finish that glides with precision and calm authority.
Food Pairings
Roast chicken with herbs, duck confit, filet mignon, mushroom risotto, aged Comté, grilled vegetables with olive oil and thyme.
Verdict
A beautifully proportioned Right Bank wine emphasizing elegance, consistency, and structural purity. It delivers high-level craftsmanship without excess drama, a wine that earns trust and admiration through balance and restraint.
🍷 Personal Pick
This feels like a wine you can always count on, noble, polished, quietly confident, and endlessly drinkable. Tons of finesse without any rough edges, making it both comforting and impressive at the same time. The kind of bottle that never disappoints. — 5 months ago
2020 vintage. Some of the class of the Grand Vin in a lighter less profound style. Great value. — 3 years ago
2016 vintage. Nicolas Thienpont is a great winemaker at 3 Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classés Beauséjour HDL, Pavie Macquin and Larcis Ducasse +Grand Cru Classé Berliquet + a few estates in the Côtes de Bordeaux). This Côtes de Francs is probably the most humble in his stable, but it's a very serious wine. A blend of 88% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc, it features a dark red colour colour with a purplish rim, a complex nose with blueberry and strawberry fruit, flowers and cocoa powder. The fruit is packed in a tight ripe tannic structure, with balancing acidity and serious length. I would recommend to give this overachiever a few years of bottle age. Abv. 14,5%. Great value at 12,90 euro. — 6 years ago
Serious cellar potential, and that is probably where this one belongs for awhile. Very primary, dense, juicy and structured. Crunchy wild berries, gravelly mineral character and slightly herbaceous. This bottling needs more time than even the grand reserve Juliénas because of its much shorter elevage and early release time. It will surely reward, but showing some mutedness now.
*Day 3* Already considerably more rewarding. The tannin structure is muscular but supple, and there is more mid palate density and clarity. Showing some dried fruit aromas at this stage, but not to the point of feeling tired. I’m more confident that this will drink well in 2021 or perhaps 2020. — 7 years ago
Pours a lemon yellow with slight effervescence which dissipated quickly. Aromas of tart lemon, salt spray, alpine wildflowers. Body on the lighter side of medium, tart citric fruit and saline finish. Somewhat simple, finish is medium. A nice wine, but could do better for the price. — 5 months ago

On the bigger-framed and riper side, which is usually not my preferred style, but it’s pretty good nonetheless. Nose shows ripe dark fruit, and a tiny bit of dark ,chocolate, but that’s redeemed by nice dark olivey notes and deep stony minerality. Rich and very southern Rhone-like in the mouth, the richness again redeemed by the minerality. Would I have preferred they picked a little earlier? Sure. But this still is quite good. 40% Carignane, 30% Syrah, 30% Grenache. — 3 years ago

Deep, viscous Violin color, curiosity that this wine from Château des Jacques, Beaujolais Domaine renowned for its Moulin-à-Vent. Aromatically marked by the style of the house with a fat and creamy toasted breeding. The varietal notes are respected making this cuvée a kind of great gap between Rhône and Burgundy. A type of wine heralding decades to come and climate change? To be tasted in two years.
Ripe strawberry, gala apple, roasted almond, and yeast. On the palate it was rich with excellent depth, though the acidity was not as clean cut as I would like to.
Takes me back to Moulin de Verzenay. And I love the new Cordon Rouge bottle design. — 6 years ago

Damn! It opened up with liquorice (sic.) and had just everything else in it. Mushrooms, turned earth, a touch of burnt honey and finally hiding just a hint of caramelized pineapple that lingers till the end. Sweetness only shows up for the grand finale in an jaw dropping show if how of how 95 g/l looks after 40 years — a month ago
