Classic Pinot from this region, Smokey, blackberry bramble, citrus acid city.
Oddly, it hits all of the things I want from this region very well. Central Otago is the closest to Tasmania, in my Pinot Noir likings.

This was a mind-f**k. Blindfolded I would’ve said Syrah until lightness and a bolt of zesty acidity and fine minerality lifted the whole thing so that an 80 degree summer night felt somehow mitigated. Wow. Hard to describe. — 2 days ago

Clone 115 Viento Vineyard & Riverview Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

From a very limited series of individual small lot Pinot clones, this one Dijon 115 grown on the central coast. Hazy. Supple texture that’s got a very focused, eager-to-please cherry fruit profile. A ripe basket combo of sour, black and sweet maraschino. Super enjoyable. — 8 days ago

Central Coast Chardonnay 2016

Color of light gold, bubbly. Nose of roasted nuts, nice ripe tropical fruits like banana, peach, and mango, a bit oaky, a bit spicy yet sweet. The nose is good. Taste of good balance among mineral, acidity, and sweetness. A bit too light considering nose is so fragrant. Ripe fruits again and refresh. Aftertaste of some more spicy nature, with touch of mineral, more fruit notes, and roasted nuts. Quite good. — 20 days ago

Gold Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Nik Pegasus Gold Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, California

A pretty color of dark ruby, with a wide reddish rim.

Beautiful nose of violets, earth, wild flowers, sweet cherries, plums, black currants, light wood, spices, vanilla, milk chocolates and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, cherries, red plums, wood, licorice, vegetables, earth, alcohol, spices, peppercorn, cinnamon and herbs.

Spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a nice Cabernet Sauvignon from Central Coast in California. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Fruit forward with mild complexity.

Drinking nicely now, but still young. Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years.

Needs 60 minutes of airtime, so please be patient. After 2 hours, it is even spicier with a nice bite to it. Very tasty.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Aged in French and American oak barrels for 19 months.

13.8% alcohol by Vol.

Michaud Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010

I haven’t had a bottle of this before so I can’t talk about its evolutionary curve. But it’s pretty damn good right now. nose has lots of sweet humus (not hummus, people), baking spice, cola syrup, dark cherry extract. Intense in the mouth, it’s got no tannin left, and while the fruit is mature and subdued, there’s a low-toned sweetness that plays off the savory elements. Very nice. — 5 days ago

Private Reserve Don Melchor Puente Alto Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Found another one of these ‘09 beauties. Deep ruby with aromas of coffee and chocolate wrapped in dark fruits. On the palate well pronounced pleasant flavors of black fruits, blackberry and ripe cherry, cassis, espresso and bittersweet cacao. The wine had plenty of oak and well-structured tanins. Lodi Chenin Blanc 2018

My first 2018 Chenin Blanc from Sandlands (not sure how I was so patient to leave one of these until now). Typical of this project, the ABV is very modest at 12%. Popped and poured; consumed over two days with consistent experiences both nights. On the nose, soft white flowers, slightly underripe pear, honeysuckle and lime. Just the slightest touch wooly. On the palate, it’s pear, lime and chamomile. Acid is high but not bracing. Nice, almost creamy finish. Overall, this is balanced and technically very good, straight down the line Chenin Blanc and paired amazingly well with bacon wrapped scallops. Yet, I just wasn’t as excited about this effort compared to previous vintages. The fruit for this bottle was sourced from their estate vineyard in the Mokelumne River AVA which is a relatively recent addition within the larger Lodi AVA. I’m not sure how old this fruit is but I sort of get the sense that the best is yet to come from these vines. Still, very tasty and technically excellent. — 2 days ago

Lodi Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Pale lemon in color with a yellow tint.

Strong nose of limes, grapefruits, green apples, light minerals and citrus.

Medium bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with grapefruits, limes, lemons, green apples and spices.

Medium plus in finish with lemons.

This is a nice surprise. A very nice Sauvignon Blanc from Lodi. Nicely balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food.

Easy drinking and fruit forward. great for the pool or for parties.

I had it all by itself by the pool.

13% alcohol by volume.

Dry Riesling 2018

This has always been a go to cheap Riesling, but for the 2018 vintage they made an even Riesling / Muscatel split. It’s so much better than I expected, and for under $15 worth stocking up on. — 10 days ago
