Long Shadows Vintners

Pirouette Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

This is a delicious Bordeaux blend from Columbia Valley in Washington State.

Very dark in color, and looks very young.

Full-bodied, smooth and bold, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, raisins, dried figs, vanilla, cedar, licorice, cola, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices, earth and coffee.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This 8 year old is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

Smooth and elegant. Rich and extracted, with a great mouth feel.

Good by itself or with food. A great wine to sip on and talk about.

Robert Parker 94 points.

Needs 3 hours to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle as well.

I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

A blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot, 17% Merlot, 7% Cab Franc and a splash of Malbec. Winemaker is Philippe Melka.

15.4% alcohol by volume.

Château Malartic-Lagravière

Grand Cru Classe de Graves Pessac Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

The second wine we had for our Thanksgiving dinner was the 2018 Chateau Malartic Lagrviére. This is from Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black currant, herbs, cedar, cigar box, crushed gravel and rich earth.

On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, stewed black plum, licorice, black currant, dry gravel and earth.

This wine is full bodied with medium + acidity and medium+ to high grippy mouthcoating tannins that lead into a long black fruit woodsy earthy finish. We did have a third wine for dinner but it was a wine I had rated a few days back that finished the night off just right. Continued good health and safety to each and every one of you. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Didn't rate it as highly as you but fairly close. Maybe bottle variation. Should pick up another bottle or two as they are a fave producer. Thanks for the reminder and excellent notes.

André Perret

Les Grisières St. Joseph Syrah 2015

Dense dark crimson in colour. Aromas of blackberry, pepper, and a whiff of charcuterie. On the palate much the same descriptors of blackberry and black pepper, medium plus bodied, finishing with persistent smooth tannins. Not as fruit driven as some top Australian Shiraz but then again should be compared with a top Shiraz from the Grampians district like Mount Langhi Ghiran “Langi “ where I would point the latter slightly higher.- both at a similar price. Tasted 57 weeks later on 4th February 2022 with similar notes - hint of tar. Pretty solid in this warm vintage. — 5 years ago

Château Pape Clément

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

Owes name to man of the cloth born in 1264, Bertrand de Goth, Bishop of Comminges, in the Pyrenees, later became Archbishop of Bordeaux in 1299. Blend, 57% Merlot, 38% Cab Sauv & 5% Petit Verdot & Cab Franc, aged in new French oak for 18 months. Pronounced youthful black fruit aromas with earthy baking spices. Blackberry & plum palate flavors with cedar & spice integrated with firm tannins, long ending, earthy oak with a mineral tang. Needs more bottle age! Tasting Sample! — 6 years ago

Figgins

Estate Red Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2021

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose and full in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, raspberries, cooked plums, chocolates, light wood, herbs, earth and peppercorn.

Long finish with grippy tannins and tart cherries.

This is a very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon based blend from Walla Walla Valley. Rich and in your face kind of wine. Fruit forward and extracted.

This Single Vineyard Bordeaux blend is complex, tangy and interesting. Feels very young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly.

I had the 2015 vintage not too long ago, and it was drinking beautifully. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years, and showing good potential to become a 94 point wine.

A good sipping wine, that would also pair nicely with food.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Aged in (57% new) French Oak barrels for 22 months.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Château Phélan Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Over the weekend I opened the 2018 Château Pgélan Ségur Saint-Estèphe Left Bank Bordeaux. A blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Merlot.

On the nose was very expressive and floral, black cherry, blackberry, fig, black currant, licorice, creamy chocolate, iron, violets and earth.

On the palate was black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, licorice, spice, minerality, light oak, herbal and dark rich earth.

This is a full bodied wine wiyg smooth fresh mouthfeel mouthwatering medium + acidity and medium + grainy tannins that leaves you with a long black fruit earthy graphite finish. This is a beautiful wine and worth the price. You can drink now or cellar for a later date. Have a wonderful week ahead and please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

Château Machorre

Bordeaux Supérieur 2006

This was a celebration moment - quit a job and about to start anew. This wine tasted French. Oak - check (mid to heavy). Deep red - check. It came out of a wine fridge - 57 F. Temperature helped.
Currants maybe. Maybe cinnamon and black pepper.

Marchesi Antinori

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

I bought this bottle in Florence around 2019. I later found out the shop was owned by Antinori - the producer of the wine. An excellent Super Tuscan from Bolgheri. 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Dark Ruby with a tawny rim starting to develop. Classic Bordeaux descriptors of Cassis, herbs, tobacco and hints of cocoa with oak totally integrated. A rich and mouth filling palate such that it could have been from a new world vineyard in a good vintage. This is comparable in quality to a good Super Second. Interestingly the 2007 had the major change of Syrah being eliminated from the blend in favour of Cabernet Franc. An outstanding Bordeaux blend which exceeded expectations. I should keep an eye out for more bottles. — a year ago

Château Larose Perganson

Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

Another solid vintage of this Haut-Medoc Bordeaux. Blend of Merlot (57%), Cabernet Sauvignon (31%) and Petite Verdot (13%). Very dark ruby/purple color. Aromas of violets, fresh herbs and plums. Pallet notes plum and blueberry fruit flavors with hints of black licorice and cocoa. Very fruit forward, savory and fresh tasting with a bit of creamy tannin on the long finish. A pleasant and slightly chalky texture. — 4 years ago

Penfolds

Bin 389 South Australia Cabernet Shiraz 2018

Referred to as the “Baby Grange,” blend of 57/43 Cab Sauv & Shiraz, aged for 12 months in American oak, partly in previous-vintage Grange casks. Dark Ruby with aromas of ripe black fruits, sweet and complex spice. On the palate juicy black cherry and blackberry flavors with notes of cacao and toasty spices. Well balanced with acidity, full ripe tannins, long ending with smoky spice, fruit well integrated with oak, drink over next 10 years+, will only get better. Tasted twice! Nice! — 4 years ago

Bonne Nouvelle Pinotage Blend 2006

March 17, 2021. Spontaneous tasting w/ C — South African reds, Bordeaux blends. Whoa! This full bodied powerhouse is 57% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% pinotage. Aromas of Cocoa, coffee, deep black fruit. Lots of old leather, cocoa on the palate. Unfiltered w/ lots of sediment, so not a good coravin candidate. Double decanted, then purchased the last 5 bottles available on Vivino. 15% alcohol so go slow. — 5 years ago
