So tasty - just spot on: sexy nose of honey & beeswax, ripe red apples, lanolin, musk, and orchard fruit. Just wafty… silky on palate, great weight vibrant acidity and so honeyed w/out being cloying. Minerality & smoke, gorgeous yellow orchard fruit w/kiss of RS - I’d call Sec Tendre. — 3 years ago

Nose is lacking expression at the moment. Clearly some RS in the palate.
Very good, but I had higher hopes for this wine…

Peter Lauer

Senior Faß 6 Ayler Riesling 2015

The 2015 Lauer Senior Faß 6 pours a bright golden color with some signs of particles (tartrates). On the nose, notes of petrol, tropical fruit, apples and rocky minerals. On the palate, the wine is…dry? There is probably a bit of RS but it’s balancing the acid which is laser cut. It finishes long and delicious. This will very likely drink well for another 5-7 years and goes hard with Thai food. This is just fantastic. — a year ago

Domaine Zind Humbrecht

Clos St. Urbain Rangen de Thann Gewürztraminer 2008

This was delightful. Full of spice, peach, apricot and mango fruit with a floral high tone. Vibrant palate with peach, orange and mango fruit. There is substantial RS but the bright, mineral driven acidity lends balance. Superb length and density on the finish. Should show well for 10 plus years. — 3 years ago

Oberhäuser Brücke Spätlese Riesling 2015

Wowow. Powerful yellow florals. Perfume, gasoline. Aromas really lifting from the glass. Golden raisin, just-cut straw, salted light caramel, dried peach, melon, lemon, citrus zest. Brilliant, electric palate. Perfect RS/acid balance. Concentrated, really luxurious texture, almost opulent. Singing. — 4 years ago

@Peter Sultan @Severn Goodwin I’m kicking myself for only getting this one bottle. What are your guys’ other favorite recent vintages? Going to get some more, but the ‘15 is long gone.

@Josh Morgenthau I only drink it randomly, in restaurants or impulse purchases on singles. I can't chase after this one in the cellar or I'll be falling down a never-ending hole... Too much stuff to focus on already, which is not this spectacular producer.

It’s an interesting question @Josh Morgenthau as I’m not much of a vintage hound-though my experience with German wines in my buying life is even the ‘weaker’ vintages, like 2013, are actually very, very good. I have a few ‘07 Prum as that is our daughter’s birth year, & ‘09 was another strong vintage I think in Germany. Plus I’m always fascinated by how good vintners make their wine in ‘off’ vintages- like in Beaujolais. My local wine store has been encouraging me to buy up anything from 2016 Italy, so I have obliged!
