Howard Park & Campbells Rutherglen Muscat

Another outstanding Muscat fortified that is so clean, so smooth, so easy to drink, without any of the occasional “harshness/alcohol” of tawny/vintage ports, that before one knows it, a 375-ml bottle can be toast — it takes incredible self-restraint to not blow through this stuff, it’s that good!! Just lovely!!

[This lovely fortified Muscat is from grapes grown by Howard Park in Margaret River, which was in turn vinified and raised by Campbell’s of Rutherglen!!]

@Bob McDonald , yes, we did, they were pouring a 2019 Reserve Cabernet which was extremely impressive, and not sure which Riesling we tried, but it was also quite nice.

Are you familiar with Corymbia in Margaret River? Had a GREAT visit and tasting with Rob and Genevieve on Monday, their Cabernet was outstanding and, fortunately, they do export to the U.S. (in very limited quantities). I’m sure you’ll recognize their last name — Mann — Rob is the 4th generation winemaker, and Gen is a winemaker as well (Rob made wine for Newton in Napa in the 2010s).

Yes Doug, I am familiar with Rob Mann and have met him a couple of times. Firstly when he had a brief stint with Cape Mentelle. I have not tasted any wines from Corymbia but they have been universally applauded by all the expert commentators.

Absolutely in great shape
Just not an outstanding wine, but very economical too

Merchant Prince Rare Rutherglen Muscat

This stuff was wild. Intensely sweet obviously but with a subtly leafy, tarry almost tobacco like finish. Pair with a cigar? — 3 years ago

Bobbie Burns Rutherglen Shiraz 2015

Hello old friend. Smooth and violety with bright red and black fruit! Red licorice, pepper, star anise, all spice. All in all, fucking delicious. A beautiful cool climate Shiraz, not too jammy. I haven't had this in a long time, and it's very welcome in these trying times — 9 years ago
