Moussé Fils

L'or D'Eugene Brut Blanc de Noirs

Again it’s a champagne from Cédric Moussé, one of the Masters of Meunier. He’s almost single-handedly put Cuisles on the wine map. The L’Or D’Eugéne is a perfect introduction to his style.

Medium gold with fast paced perlage and an attractive bouquet. Black cherries and pretty flowers combine with chalk and herbs. In the mouth, it’s racy and vivacious. Sexy and a bit thrilling with zippy acidity. 80/20 Pinot Meunier/Pinot Noir from a perpetual reserve with an Extra Brut dosage of 2 g/l.

I’ve always wanted to drink this over a few days. To really let it breathe and mature in the glass. To really let it set and enjoy it over time. But I can’t. It’s just too damn good.

Roses de Jeanne VV/R20 Champagne 2021

Surprised by a pretty developed gold color. Nice weight on the tongue with a mixed red fruited texture that washes over it with a slight finish of green vegetation or stem. Lemon curd and warm brioche…. Tart gooseberry and cranberry notes on the nose. And a long caress of a finish. Think time will smooth some of the rough edges but all in all impressive even in its youth. — 4 years ago

L'or D'Eugene Rosé Champagne Blend

In my opinion, few producers can match the gracefulness and sheer excitement of Cédric Moussé. His rosé is no exception. Sexy and seductive, there’s a reason I drink this so often.

Stunning in the glass with a saignée style coloring. The nose features strawberries and cherries with blue fruits and earth.

Primarily Pinot Meunier with a splash of Pinot Noir. Composed of not one but two perpetual reserves which gives the champagne that impeccable sleekness and character.

The fruit explodes in your mouth. It’s just so damn good. You really should sit with it and take it all in because it’s such a well made wine but you just can’t. It’s gone in a flash. Every single time. And that’s when you open another bottle.

Anecdote Lieu Dit Les "Varosses" Champagne Chardonnay

A clear shimmering gold color in glass with vivacious tiny bubbles that go on and on. Very pretty and stately in appearance. An absolute burst of orchard fruits on the nose with pears and peaches. A touch of grapefruit with a dab of honey. These floral notes are a bit enchanting and delicate. Hazelnuts and green apples abound the longer it grows in the glass.

When I think of Cédric Moussé, I automatically think of Meunier, as he is one of the Masters of Meunier. This Blanc de Blancs comes from plots in Cuisles and Jonquery originally planted with Pinot Meunier. Disgorged in 2019 with an Extra Brut of 2 g/l, this thing sings and is so delicious. The acidity is zesty and the structure is well balanced. Full of life and power.

The palate is charming from first sip to the last. Mirroring the nose, those pears and peaches tantalize while yeast makes you smile. Very mineral driven and plenty of chalky goodness. Apples become dominant as times goes on. The finish has nice length with some unexpected white pepper. A unique entry in the Moussé portfolio and it most definitely belongs.

Séries Limitées Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2019

Gigondas 2019 Castel "Séries Limitées". Winemaker Cédric Jenin is doing a great job with this high-end small batches series. This Gigondas is sourced from a high altitude (300 m) 7 hectares organic plot on the Dentelles de Montmirail. Intense perfume with Amarena cherries, flowers and spices, like a dry Vintage Port. Grenache wouldn't be Grenache without the high alcohol (15,5%), but it's beautifully balanced by fresh acidity. Intense, with layers of jammy fruit and spices, while maintaining freshness. Very long spicy finish. Impressive. — 7 months ago

Roses de Jeanne La Haute Lemblé Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne 2018

For the price, I expected a lot more. So did the rest on the table. Probably too young as it did improve with air, but I’ve had youthful (and cheaper) Champagne’s that performed far better than this. Started off with heaps of pears, bruised apples, and almonds on the nose. The palate was concentrated, juicy and almost too fruity for me (apples and apricot for days!). Air brought about more cut and chalkiness, as well as some floral notes. In short, I expected more depth. I suspect I’m just not a fan of the vintage. Time will tell. — 2 years ago

Pushed to the back…amazing minuscule mousse… green apple, red apple, ripe pear. Used to be house bubble when $80 per. Smooth, silky light as baby breath… think I’ll look for more hidden bottles. — 3 years ago
