2000 vintage. Sweet fill. Exquisite cork extracted via the Durand but likely could have used a standard wine key. Darker color than expected. Decanted with expected sed. Medium/medium heavy body. Tannic, dark-fruited nose. Frontal chunkiness. Mid-palate resolution. Finishing solution, smoothing out after 5-6 seconds and gliding into conversation. Still a ton of youthful fruit and passion. Phenomenal (and, unfortunately, last) specimen. Need to acquire if still possible. Absolutely no rush to crush. 7.31.26. — 10 days ago

This wine has a vibrant yellow-gold color in the glass. Its nose offers lots of lime and lemon, along with stone fruit, mango, and wet-sidewalk minerality. The palate is fruity, yet with a ton of minerals. On the tongue, the acidity is quite fresh and zippy. Pair it with a creamy shrimp dish. — 4 months ago

Aroma had black currants, blackberries, shoe box, tobacco, leather and dates. Over the palate came black currants, leather, green tannins, tobacco, shoe box, herbs, oak and a hint of vanilla. High acidity, high tannins and dry.

2018 vintage. Spicy and a tad weedy (not the 4/20 variety) nose. Light-medium body but plenty of punch. Abusive Luxardo cherry in the flavors alongside cola nut, raspberry and rhubarb. Biggy tannins but mostly front-loaded vs back end. Needs a good 2 hour decant to air out. Tremendous hollers for the dollars. Almost a Pinot/Burgundy-styled bod. Almost. So much zip and personality. Pear, white flowers, crushed rocks and gun powder on the nose. On the palate the pear is in front but there is a nice acid drive making the wine rather vertical and vivid. The finish is fresh with pear notes and a bit of chalky mouthfeel. That's a good effort! — 4 years ago

La Ca’Növa is now under fifth generation leadership; they used to sell all their fruit to Gaja. Super traditional methods with a twist; they used botti made of Austrian oak instead of Salvonian. Vigna Bric Mentina is a sub cru of the Montefico MGA where the soils are relatively sandy.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2015 “Vigna Bric Mentina” pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity and no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe Morello cherry, raspberry, strawberry, roses with freshly cut stems, cedar chest, dried herbs and gravelly earth and minerals. There’s also a kiss of VA, just in case you needed a reminder that this is a traditional Italian wine, lol! On the palate, the wine is bone dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and slightly savory. This is absolutely baller. How did I sleep on this producer for so long? Oh yeah…I remember: access. I live in Omaha. Welp…now I have another producer to chase. Drink now with patience (enjoy the ride!) and through 2045. — 4 months ago
