Aging really well (as of May 2018). Smells a little hot and ripe, but mellower than expected fruit. Cherry and apple crisp, without too much jammy mouthfeel. A lot more finesse than expected. Like watching a linesman who can dance the tango. — 8 years ago

Cleaning up some things in the boss' cellar and forgot this one was here! Thought this one was over the hill as usually these are VERY approachable right at release. Really impressed with the structure of this at almost 10 years old. At release these seem to have lush fruit. This one had a wealth of chewy fruit, but it was half blackberry, half brambleberry, hint of vanilla and clove. Good acidity. Soft all around with integrated oak. Black pepper finish. Really impressed with this wine. Still has 3 to 5 years, but then again I wasn't even sure it had 0, so take that for what it's worth! — 7 years ago

Saw 3 of these in the boss' cellar tonight and thought I would give it another try. My impressions of it were pretty darn good a year ago, and OH MAMA they're even better this year. This wine is NOT over the hill. If it's over the hill, it wasn't stored correctly. This wine was DELICIOUS. Ran the table tonight and we pretty much stopped opening wines and opened up all 3 of these from the cellar. Dark black fruit, grilled meat, smoky characteristics up front. This wine is JAM PACKED with a flinty middle and finish. Tannin had completely resolved, therefore I don't believe there is any more than 3-4 years left in this wine. First bottle drank incredibly well over a two-hour period. Finished with a flinty blackberry and cocoa. I have zero of these left in my personal collection! — 9 years ago

Take a typical good-quality PN and amplify everything from color, nose, mouthfeel, structure, and length - and you get to this wine from Rocky Point, a steep hill above a lake in central Otago. Color is deep violet; nose is high-octane black fruits (mulberry) and ripe cran- and strawberries, and minerality and a sweet herbaciousness; taste is full bodied with round tannins, dense fruit, medium-high aclohol, rubber and spice. Bright crimson in colour. Tarry tertiary aromas ie Savoury over fruit. Palate is light to medium bodied with medium plus intensity. Sweet compared to the Bell Hill had the night before. 80% whole bunch ferment (stalkiness) is in balance with the high quality Pinot fruits. Drinking at its peak. The winner of the Jimmy Watson Trophy In 2013 at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show for the best One Year old Dry Red In somewhat controversial circumstances over the Giant Steps entry. — 7 years ago
