Forja del Salnes

Leirana Ma Luisa Lazaro Albarino 2019

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2019 Mª Luisa Lázaro pours a striking, almost radioactive yellow with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Meyer lemon, lime, starfruit, Granny Smith apple, sea spray, and rocky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, creamy and incredibly saline…like…how did they do that?! Spellbinding stuff. Further proof (as if any more was necessary) that Raúl Pérez is a freaking magician. Until now, this wine has only been released three times: 2005, 2013 and 2019. Only 2500 bottles of this ambrosia were made. Drink now through 2039. — 3 months ago

Cop de Ma Fort

Priorat Carignan blend 2018

Last bottle of this delicious and relatively inexpensive Priorat. It’s 50% Carignane and 50% Garnacha, but the Carignane really comes through on the nose, which shows deep, dark cherry and a little iodiney, stoney minerality. Big whack of flavor and body upfront. Licorice note making an entrance as the wine airs out. Tannins still and decent acids. Finish is a little short but at this value price point I’m in no position to complain. Solid wine for rustic cool weather dinners. — 7 months ago
