Well, here’s to still having power. I don’t want to jinx us but it seems like every time we have a hurricane we lose power! I’m stocked up and ready. I’m in central Florida, in between Gainesville and Orlando. Juan Gil Jiménez first built his winery in 1916 in Jumilla, and passed it down to his future generations. From 100% Certified Organic Monastrell (or Mourvèdre in France), in chalky, stony soils, aromas of dark berry fruits and woody spice. Aged 12 months in French oak, palate shows blackberry and plum with smoky wood flavors and notes of cacao and cinnamon spice. Soft ripe tannins, medium+ ending with a light toasty earthy character. 2008 vintage. Decanted and tasted after two hours. Some fine sediment. Ripe, plummy nose. Medium-heavy body. Ripe, plummy flavors. Pushed through approx 1/8 of a glass and just couldn’t any more any longer. Lacking any respectable semblance of balance. And I thought the old '90's Bryant Family Cabs came in as über-low, strafing fruit bombs…10.25.24. — 2 months ago
