It is Friday night and during this time of being shut in our home a group of us had a Zoom chat to try and help in keep some assemblance of normalcy with socialization through Zoom chat. During our gathering I opened the 2016 Pirouette Long Shadows Vintners Bordeaux Blend. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec. A wine from Walla Walla, Washington produced by renowned winemaker Philippe Melka. A beautifully blended wine that will stand the test of time and only get better.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, red currant, vanilla, baking spice, cigar box and rich soil.

On the palate ther is black cherry, blackberry, black currant, red currant, green bell pepper, creamy chocolate, graphite and crushed rock.

This wine is full bodied with a smooth creamy mouthfeel, medium + acidity and medium + smooth rounded tannins that lead into a long black fruit finish. What a wonderful wine that all would enjoy. I just wish on our video chat I would have been able to share this with my friends. Maybe some day when we come through this. Please everyone stay healthy and safe. We will come through this. Color of light black tea. Nose is quite spicy, a bit smoky and peaty, ripe apple, and more spiciness in the nasal cavity. Taste is unexpected sweet, with spiciness takes the backseat, flowering and honey notes, a bit minty, and some more hotness, quite smooth and dense enough. Aftertaste of more honey note and lingering warmth. Not bad at all as crowd pleaser. I am surprised by the low ratings overall from the community. — 7 years ago

A blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot, blended then aged for 24 months in 50% new and 50% once-used American oak. Deep Ruby color with aromas of black fruit, licorice and minty floral notes. The palate beautifully displays rich ripe blackberry and black cherry, a hint of sweetness, vivid acidity and the right touch of toasty vanilla oak, still youthful in development. The wine has nicely integrated tannins, still holds some grip on a long finish which should give way to let this wine age for the next decade+. Excellent, Tasting Sample! — 7 years ago

Hibiki Highball from the master at the Apollo. Been two years since I’ve been here but it felt like yesterday. Literally nothing has changed. Must stop if you are in Tokyo. Feel free to go to the bar Milo next door and have a drink of the “Mr Norm” bottle that I had to buy in order to get a drink. Keep in mind all of these places max out at 8 people.
