Baltos Bierzo Mencía 2004

Failla

Estate Vineyard Fort Ross - Seaview Syrah 2015

The good folks at Buck’s T-4 in Big Sky, Montana pulled this off list suggestion for us after we talked about our wine preferences. It was perfect with the Elk chop. A bit gamey with a touch of pepper. It had brightness that comes from a cool climate, but it still managed depth and and loooong finish. I wish I could remember more, but that was several days ago. Absolutely delicious. — 5 years ago

Espectacle del Montsant

Montsant Garnacha 2017

Pronounced “Es-peck-tuckle dell Mont-sunt.” Located in so-called armpit of Spain’s prestigious wine country principally because of its rustic quality. Deep Ruby with intense fruit aromas and sweet floral spice, aged 15 mos in French oak, from a warm dry vintage. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and raspberry with currants, sweet cacao, floral & pepper spice. Fine big tannins, well balanced with long finish finesse, ending with herb and spice, adding slight alcohol warmth. — 2 years ago

Becker Vineyards

Iconoclast Texas Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Visiting Fredericksburg TX for a few days. This is TX hill country and has a big winery community. Never tried any TX wines before but found a few surprises here. We tasted at Becker earlier today but not this wine. $30 on the restaurant wine list. Becker wasn’t our favorite stop but it is the only local winery represented on their list. Overall local wines seemed overpriced compared to CA wines. Just realized we had an older vintage (2018) on our last trip from Houston to Anaheim. It’s interesting that most of the grapes used in the local wines come from Lubbock (panhandle) area. Don’t know where these grapes came from, or what varietals are present. — 3 years ago

Jordan Vineyard & Winery

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Founded 1972, Tom & Sally Jordan, from CO, went to CA’s wine country & produced inaugural vintage in 1976. A Fav of mine with a steak, and the ‘14 is big! Had the ‘14 over a year ago, it’s Wow Now! Blend of 79% Cab Sauv, 13.7% Merlot, 5.8% Petit Verdot, 1.2% Malbec & 0.3% Cab Franc. Deep Ruby red with aromas of red fruit & perfume spice. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry & blackberry with oak, sweet spice, leather & cacao notes. Rich tannins, well balanced and integrated with fruit & oak. Very Nice! — 5 years ago

La Cave du Prieuré Compostelle Mondeuse 2019

ESF
9.1

Just delicious! I’ve had great luck w/Savoie wines and this was no different: pours extremely dark, inky, opaque, brooding taking its time to unfurl black & red fruit w/depth, earthy w/a hi tone note along with licorice and forest floor. Big mouth filling broad across palate, gobs of fruit but all fit into sturdy tannic frame. Well cut - a Country Squire — 2 years ago

Bernard Magrez

Casa Magrez de Uruguay Cuvée d'Exception Tannat Blend 2016

Bernard Magrez ‘Casa Magrez de Uruguay’ 2016: Big. Bold. Beautiful. A complex & expressive wine with black fruits, plum, vanilla, leather, earth & oak notes. Medium acidity & tannins and a lovely smooth finish. Coming from the beautiful country of Uruguay, this wine is an elegant & graceful red blend of Tannat, Merlot & Cab Franc. A ready-to-drink, great value wine with an awesome flavor profile. Glad to be cellaring 2 additional bottles! Cheers🍷 — 2 years ago
