Medium garnet; medium plus intensity aromas of red cherry, red and black currant, pomegranate, dried herbs, saline; dry, medium plus acid, medium smooth tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; very special and unique — 2 years ago
Actually a blend of Cab Sauv, Castelão, Syrah, Touriga Nacional and Alicante Bouschet. This wine is a very dark purple, almost inky. The nose is also dark, showing blackberry notes alongside savory tobacco, spice and earth, all in a very smokey framework. The palate of this interesting blend is nearly stunning. Tannins have a good grip, but the blue fruit flavors are amazing and the acidity leaves the sipper salivating. It seems bizarre to me that this wine cost less than $10. It drinks like it should cost much more.

I've only had a couple touriga nacional non-fortified wines in my life, and they can vary widely in quality, structure, and tannin. This is on the softer side, no doubt partly because of its age, so it drinks easily.
Aromas are very reserved, a far cry from the aromatic wines I usually prefer. Lovely cocoa, clay, and homemade berry jam flavors. Reminds me of a Priorat but without the characteristic minerality. All in all solid. — a year ago
