— 11 days ago
The nose is *very* powerful : small red berries, tea leaves, caramel and vanilla. A hinch of raspberry too. A bit of warmth as well, and a bit of plum too. Very strong. The palate is powerful too. It starts with a very acid slide that goes down for ever, small red berries all along, layers of complexity : caramel here, soft silky touches there on the sides, franc tannins in the end and a blast of a finish with plum and small red berries dancing in a firework with a nice bitterness and a soft touch that never ends. After yesterday's amarone I wanted some more. This one is more muscular, yesterday's was more subtile and gracious.
Not cheap though, around 45€ — 18 days ago
Lunar New year celebration at PA Margaret Kuo with 20 per CB tradition. Pino's 3 Amarone. Well balanced with fruits and spice and earth and am angular and lively texture vs other two. I'd say need more time. Is probably drinking the best. Also the oldest. — 4 days ago
This is excellent wine. It pours a true ruby red and has a lot of alcohol initially on the nose. It has flavors of cherry and other fruits. But it is also very dry which I found helped balance it. This was my first experience with Amarone; it reminded me a bit of Pinot noir burg with several times the intensity. This is a big wine that drinks like an older more mature red. It was $17 at Trader Joe’s and an absolute steal. — 14 days ago
Small red berries, black and white pepper, strawberry, hay, leather a bit too. Rather discreet but complex nose. The palate is a real treat. So long, so intense! A very strong acid backbone which makes for a dynamic mouthfeel. Strawberry and small red berries dance all around it. Some width and a smooth touch on the sides, a bit of tannins too to spice things up. There is something else in the texture like a layer of silk with a touch of tobacco, I don't know how to describe it otheewise. The finish is everlasting with the small red berries and a nice acid/bitter touch that make it very classy. It blends a grand Bourgogne touch with a dynamic and fruitful châteauneuf du pape distinction. What a wine! — 19 days ago
Medium red color with brownish accents. Sampled over a 2+ hour decant. Massive nose of chocolate that evolves to amaretto and you can smell the 16.5 OH. Syrupy and very port like. Medium minus finish which is surprising. Always nice to try something new as this might be my first Amarone experience. Thanks MG!! — 5 days ago
I've never had a bad Amarone, but this one is fantastic. Even the last bit of the bottle I had two days later. Big, bold, jammy dark fruit and big tannins, put it with the heartiest Italian or grilled food you make, and enjoy. — 18 hours ago
