Champagne Method Portuguese sparkler. Blend of native Portuguese grapes including Maria Gomes (23%), Bical (70%) and Cercial (7%). Aromas and flavors of pear, citrus fruits, white flowers, wet stones, honey and anise. Hint of chalk, smoke and minerals on the long finish. Expressive effervescence and creamy texture. (Lees Aging?) Lovely Portuguese sparkler from the Bairrada AOC north of Coimbra, cepage is 5% Cercial, 30% Bical, 30% Maria-Gomes, and 35% Arinto. Loads of bubbles, not quite as fine or delicate as a fine Champagne, but really lovely for a midweek sub-$16 sparkler!! — 3 years ago
