Sir Winston Churchill Brut Champagne 1995

Deep medium gold color. Great nose. Notes of biscuits, kiwi fruit, apple cider and citrus fruit. Nicely integrated fruit and structure in the mouth. With air this really blossomed. At peak and ready to go. Not as good as the 96 tonight though. — 8 days ago

Welbedacht Wine Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Greg Ballington

Dinner at De Wijnhuis in downtown Stellenbosch. Great food and amazing wine list. Was shocked to see some older wines, very unusual in South Africa. Highly recommend.

Medium mix of ruby and garnet red. Ripe and plush nose with layers of sweet spices, black currants, cassis, plums and a touch of red earthiness. Fully integrated tannins (5.5/10) with a medium body. Good structure on the palate with some cedar, black currants, sweet tobacco and light dustiness. Great acidity with a lingering finish. Drink now.

Light medium gold color. Great energy in the glass. Notes of sliced apples, kiwi, wet stones and citrus. Great minerality in the mouth. So much energy. Really showed well tonight. — 8 days ago

@Alan Weinberg My buddy opened an 02 PR WC for us recently and it seemed a bit tired, so I’m definitely happy this was singing a great tune!

Riserva Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Superiore Corvina Blend 2004

62nd birthday-oh boy! The 07 Classico is so velvety, well integrated tannins and alcohol with a hint of dried figs, plums, and long finish. Great way to celebrate with my hubby! I will save the Riserva for another occasion with my sons and daughter in-law! — 4 days ago

Château Cantebau

Château Dauzac Grand Cru Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Cinquiemes Cru, Fifth growth Margaux very supple and approachable. I always pick a wine with the Chateau depicted on the label. Shows they are proud. Sir Winston Pub, Lille, France — 3 years ago

It’s a light whisky. I get eggnog and nutmeg flavors so obviously creamy and smooth. Little to no nose but I am having it with ice as opposed to straight. Finish is also light but given the proof expected. — 2 years ago

Cuvée Cinema Pinot Noir 2018

I did not get to write notes on the last three wines, just scores. We had to get to Russell Hamilton.

However, I wish I had been able to write them as these were the wines I was looking forward to spending some time on.

Peter & Andrew Allan of Crystallum are the third generation of winemakers and sons of the man who pioneered Pinot Noir winemaking in the Hemel-en-Aarde which; is what drew me to the region that is about another hour plus SE of Stellenbosch and a very good area to produce Pinot Noir.
