Bajta rose Modra Frankinja

Slovenia is becoming the best place for natural wines. This was great - easy drinking, slight funk, would buy again (had at Etta). — a month ago

Bajta Haloze Belo Dry White 2021

Popped and poured; no formal notes. This is a fun, spontaneously fermented skin-contact blend of Pinot Gris, Welchriesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The 2021 Kobal “Bajta” dry-white wine pours a pale copper color and is redolent of white and pink tree flowers and stone fruits: apricot and peaches with some raspberries, orange citrus and light baking spices. The wine is lightly tannic with a slightly waxy texture and nice acidity. This paired really well with a fancy riff on a hard-boiled egg with falafel, tomato and feta cheese. Drink now. — 5 months ago

Sgaminegg Südsteiermark Chardonnay Sauvignon Blanc

Light, crisp, and sharp, with some slightly curious acidic funk. A hot summer day wine that’s still interesting. 2nd variety I’ve had from this producer - both on the strange yet delightful spectrum. — 4 months ago

Zieregg Südsteiermark Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Unmistakably Steiermark SB - green asparagus, nettle, grass with a pronounced mineral, stony, slightly smokey backbone. On the palate this is tightly wound around a core of juicy, vibrant, mineral acidity. Yet it has (just) enough body & great depth with a spicy, vibrant mineral finish to make it a really profound wine. This one should wait for at least another 10y. If you can control yourself. — 2 years ago
