The 2017 Terre di San Leonardo keeps you coming back to the glass to take in its intense bouquet of spiced raspberries, black licorice, crushed chalk and peppery florals. This is silky with depths of dark wild berries and inner herbal tones, all accelerated by brisk acids and a subtle hint of sour citrus. It leaves the palate reeling, lightly structured yet spry, as a primary coating of red and black fruit slowly fades. The warmth of the vintage has imparted another level of richness that isn’t often found from the Terre di San Leonardo, making it an excellent option for near-term enjoyment. This is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Carmenère from the younger vines on the San Leonardo estate. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2022)

Nerello Mascalese variety from Mt. Etna Sicily. Red light in color, however the impressionis of a medium body with refined mild dried berries attributes. Some flowery notes contribute to this interesting taste. Went well with a Shitake mushroom based pasta — 7 days ago
Stony, citrus and refreshing — 7 days ago
Quite a vigorous mouthful. Loads of extracted, crunchy macerated cherry fruit. Some warm, stony gravel scent, and a light herbal note like fresh oregano leaf. Full and assertive in the mouth. Lots of fruit but bigger and more structured than I expected. Some youthful tannin in the lengthy finish. Drink now if you want vigorous, but it should settle down nicely over the next year. — a month ago
Opened about an hour before service. The 2016 Terre Nere (Campigli Vallone) Brunello di Montalcino pours a deep garnet with a slightly brownish rim. No signs of sediment. On the nose, this is very expressive and unabashedly Italian with funky red and dark fruits, black tea, dried green herbs, licorice. On the palate, oh yes…the wine is bone dry with medium++ tannin and medium+ acid. The structure is stunning. There’s loads on character on the palate too with ripe and wisened cherries, orange curaçao, dry earth, and dried herbs. The finish is long and immensely satisfying. A killer wine with a long life ahead. Drink now with some patience and through 2036 — 8 days ago
