Stolpman 2013 Roussanne

Canberra District Riesling 2013

Pale to mid Lemon in colour. Herbal notes with lime and white flowers on the nose. Faint notes of paraffin and stone fruit. A little lean and tart currently which will fill out with time I feel. Still bracing acidity at 7 years. I feel this Canberra District Riesling will cruise past its 10th Birthday and keep going. — 2 days ago

Point Barre Arbois Pupillin Ploussard 2013

Lucky to try the trousseau and ploussard one after the other. Very different wines the the trousseau light on this feet and this one needing a bit of time in a carafe to show a mix of red berries and spice. Tons of funk than needed to blow off as well. — 8 days ago

Siepi Castello di Fonterutoli Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2013

Nice wine but not quite all together at this point. Decanted for 4 hours. But too much sweet oak for my taste. With Marcella Hazan’s bolognese it’s a nice pairing. Deep fruited and the merlot certainly comes through. Good acid, tannins still very there. With even more air probably gets to 9.0. But overall still a bit skeptical of super Tuscans in general. — 13 days ago

Casa de Santar

Reserva Estate Bottled Dão Red Blend 2013

Really impressive thru vintage but this bad boy was especially strutting it’s stuff showing plenty of polish & sophistication: soaring black & blue fruit, creamy vanilla, gentle spice & warmth, little cedar & tobacco - plush, finely grained tannins, med bodied, smooth & seamless. Hot diggitty this was nice! — 9 days ago

Wine Nerd herd virtual tasting of various vintages from 90s, 00s and 10s - mine was the 2013 - 88% CS, 8% PV, 3% merlot and 1% CF from various vineyards in the valley floor region - four hour decant - this is less fruit than you would expect but certainly an amazing wine - Napa finest at a modernist style Bordeaux blend - nose was rich with tobacco leather cocoa and forest floor - heavy to medium body yet the wine was soft because the fruit was muffled - mid palette with black blue and red fruits - orange peel cinnamon and sweet silky tannins integrated nicely - this could easily go 30 more years but not sure it will get better so if willing to decant and maybe even double decant for an afternoon this wine is ready for being paired with a cowboy bone in rib eye steak and will not let you down - truly an enjoyable experience as was all vintages tasted last night - HUGE SMILES — 2 days ago

La Sirena

Napa Valley Grenache 2013

Medium body, good aroma and that great Grenache flavor. No mistaking it is a Grenache. Long smooth finish. All in all good Grenache but not great — 5 days ago

Palengat Columbia Valley Red Blend 2013

Almost black in color, matching the bramble nose. Roses. I get a little campfire and some vegetal notes. Palette is smooth and silky with nice acid. More energy than most QC. Feels properly right bank at the tail end of primary. — 7 days ago

Sky Pinot Noir 2013

This was quite good - and better than the 2013 Moon, which I’m pretty sure received a higher rating. Probably just past peak, however, so I wouldn’t advise hanging on to this one much longer. — 6 days ago

Heathcote Shiraz 2013

This is the 2013 of that same wine, also purchased at Chapoutier and drank along side the 2009 I just posted. This was really good too, but definitely came across as more fruit-forward with less backbone to it than the 2009. This was also reflected in how the wine evolved over that same couple of days: whereas the 2009 fell off gracefully, this one dropped much more precipitously to where it was wholly uninteresting at day 3 (while the 2009 was still drinking well). I initially assumed that 2013 might have been a warmer vintage than 2009, and while this might be true, the 2013 clocks in at 14% versus 14.5% for the 2009. That difference in ABV might be in the noise, but the difference in the overall quality between these two (still excellent) wines was unmistakable. — 6 days ago
