Santa Rita

Sea Smoke

Ten Estate Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

Not as big of a Pinot as many other Tens have been from other vintages. Still medium full palate but less big fruit, more subtle layers of cherry complimented by an herbal savory character. If you like fruit, drink up. — 3 days ago

Horseshoe Vineyard Pinot Noir 2007

Aromatics were a little lacking yet the fruit on the palate was in abundance. — 9 days ago

Estate Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot Blend 1999

Supple and more elegant than muscular. Wonderful on opening and even more pleasant over next two hours. It has a richness and a meandering way. Less focused than some of the more recent vintages from Monte Bello. — 12 days ago

78% Cabernet Sauvignon; 21% Merlot; 1% Petit Verdot. 106 tons from 43.5 acres. Winemaker notes 4/20. “Most enjoyable over next 12 to 18 years.” 18 months in oak. — 10 days ago

Rhys Vineyards

Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019

2019 vintage. Light body. Fairly presh and delicate. Milk chocolate, rhubarb, strawberry, sandalwood and raspberry rolling through the experience. Seemingly carving out subtle extremes in what is actually possible in the SCM. 2.16.24. — 11 days ago

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1997

Flight #2 of our 1997 Retrospective and these were the thoroughbreds. Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Wine #2 had great color, was developing, fresh, focused, balanced; great structure. One of those glasses of wine you didn’t want to end and, for me, a tough call for favorite of the flight along with Wine #1. I vacillated between this being Dominus or Monte Bello; ultimately calling the former. This is in a beautiful phase of life. Monte Bello is one of those wines that needs decades to show its best. Drink now through 2040. — 23 days ago
